Because neither has elite speed. Maybe Gant's 4.75/40 is OK for a strong safety and maybe if he takes the slow tight ends he can keep up.

In HS maybe. In the SEC, a safety who runs a 4.75 40 is not going to see field much and get burned by most of the TEs when he does. If that 40 time is accurate, I actually really hope this guy signs w/ the Noles & gets on the field. I look forward to seeing Zipperer and Gamble torch him numerous times.

FNL and the Opening are laser timed. I don't know about the rest of the camps. Some kids elect not to run 40s at the camps.

Safeties make up time with angles and not necessarily foot speed. Head speed. They bait QBs just like QBs look safeties off. And I am not in any way downplaying how foot speed helps.

Just a FYI = researchers verified that the speed (timed) of an athlete is peaked when he comes out of high school. So, you're gonna get less with putting on of non-run muscles and weight.

Honestly I think this may be an issue with some concern over his character. If we don't send our new coach who is from Lakeland to do an in home with him I think that is your answer. Even if we have no shot (and if you believe the reporting he'd listen if we talked) it would at least be worth it to make him tell you at an in home.

I agree, about the 40 times. What you put on tape is who you are and I like what he put on tape.
