I get that Hinkle opposes gay marriage on religious grounds; I missed where she said it should not be legal (and reeeaaaaalllly do not want to go back and read the articles again) and she is working to make it illegal. Is that what she said? If not then she's not trying to take away anyone's rights. If I believe that women shouldn't be able to vote or people shouldn't be able to own firearms, but if I don't act on those beliefs, am I trying to take away people's rights? I don't think so. But, there are actually members of Congress who both want to and actively work towards taking away people's rights. Does that mean we are not supposed to tolerate them?

I can tell you that there is not an iota of hate in my heart for anyone who I personally know who is gay. So for myself, I adamantly oppose gay MARRIAGE without the hate.

Perhaps I am naive, but I don't see how not accepting something and making something illegal are the same thing. My accepting or not accepting a legal activity has zero impact on whether someone gets to keep doing it. And in this particular case, the law is not on the side of Ms. Hinkle. How is she taking away (or trying to take away) anyone's rights? Simply by speaking in opposition?
