Ox, if you are genuinely curious about my temperament, the answer is that yes I can tolerate pessimism and even despondence that is tempered by humility. None of us have all the facts or can prognosticate infallibly. Indeed many negative statements that have been made are well justified and reasonable. For example even your own hyperbolic disappointment isn’t offensive due to its inherent theatricality and mystery.

However it is the true sh!tbirds that I am singling out for odium: those that scapegoat and malign out of ignorance and malice, as though their disappointment with the team is the only thing important. That kind of egotism disgusts me. We are supposed to be supporting a team playing a sport that is full of surprises. Let’s at least allow for that possibility if we call ourselves fans, that we are pretty likely to be surprised by the way events unfold.

Anyone that still feels maligned by the above graphic, well, that is between them and their conscience.

Here’s what the sh!tbirds will never understand, the source of their treason:

“Rather proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart; his passport shall be made,
And crowns for convoy put into his purse;
We would not die in that man’s company
That fears his fellowship to die with us.”

We may have lost, but I would be proud to share a foxhole with the team I saw play on Saturday. They battled to the end, and Mullen did a fine job of leading them. There’s no dishonor in their efforts, lose or win. Sometimes you have to tip your hat to the other fellow. Those that are ashamed of them can take their passport and purse of crowns and depart.
I’m going to make the assumption that you wouldn’t know a foxhole if you fell in one much less what the proper dimensions are.

Impressive. You know, I’ve work with an actual MoI. It was flashy but lacked substance. Kind of a theme, don’t you think?

For those that may not have been paying close attention, I just responded to the chest beating bullish!t of the wannabe John Wayne bulldozer pilot with the implication that if we ever shared a foxhole, he might end up a victim of an enemy grenade due to my ‘incompetence.’

Anyhow Mr. SOCOM Bulldozer Pilot, I hear they’re starting SEAL Team 9 up as a construction battalion. Maybe it isn’t too late for you to scratch that itch and get into harm’s way. Or I guess you could keep digging ditches. Either way, just so we’re clear, you and I both know that the military isn’t a sh!tbird free zone, and based on your chest beating bullish!t we both know how you stack up on that score, now don’t we. No one gets a free pass with this motherfvvker here, not even the heroic bulldozer drivers of the US Navy Construction Battalions.

Ever driven a bulldozer? I doubt you would talk as much crap if you had - its fun!

For the record, they don’t trust officers to drive equipment outside the yard. :cry2:And never claimed to work with SOCOM, etc. Closest I’ve ever been to working with any “tiered” unit was Navy EOD. But to the topic at hand: I worked with MoI for logistics movements. They had a pretty cool building, lots of neat statues, bunch of pomp and circumstance... But never showed up when or where you needed them. Great assumption on your part, though. Out of curiosity, how long did it take for you to look up what Seabees do? I’m guessing the closest you’ve been to “service” was working as a gas station attendant in NJ.

I saw the fvvking movie like every other real American. I mean, that’s why you signed up right?

By the way, all bullish!t aside, thank you for your service. Even if you happened to be a sh!tbird, though that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Didn’t see it until I got in. Great movie though. Filmed at Point Mugu, the adjacent naval air station to the Seabee base at Port Hueneme. When they storm the beaches in the movie, the background mountains are now home to the PCH. Surfed there a few times - kind of surreal.

I am - we all are at some point, right? But the sentiment is appreciated - especially coming from a fellow sh!tbird!

I certainly have my moments. I just want people to be fair to the team, and to be loyal if they call themselves fans. As long as they abide by that they can be as disappointed and despondent and even as pessimistic as they like and they’ll never hear a cross word out of me.

I voted 3-0 in the USC/UGA/MIZZOU poll. My biggest complain since Saturday was the focus on the offense. The defense clearly lost the game but most of the complaints here have been about a handful of cherry picked Mullen decisions (and a couple of dudes blaming the zebras - as is appropriate for a message board).

Yeah I wasn’t trying to single you out in any way as my edit above makes clear. It is disappointing to see such a Herculean effort by the team go awry, but let’s remember the valor of that effort rather than the disappointment of failure. As a pure fan of football that was one of the best games I’ve ever watched, and it sucks to see such an experience met with fans throwing the coaches and team under the bus. I really believe that in practical terms everyone gave it their all.

If that defense gave it their all we are in serious trouble.

Yep.

Although I don’t think there are very many teams on the schedule that can hang with us offensively. Get a couple of scores up and all of a sudden the defense has the advantage. I also don’t think we will see an offense that good again this year unless it’s in a rematch. We can take away a strength, but that only helps if there are weaknesses to be exploited.
