That was one helluva messy parting of the ways between Leavitt and USF a decade ago. I realize he’s a good coach. I also realize he burned a lot of bridges. I’m surprised to hear his name mentioned.

To be clear, I'm the only one mentioning his name, AFAIK he is not a candidate.

You’re not alone. The Times has him listed as a possible hire, noting at the same time his settlement with USF stipulates he cannot apply for any job at the university “in any capacity,” and that if he does USF is “free to reject and disregard it.”

That language obviously had more bite when it was penned.

Are they really the same guy?

Not sure but a whole lot of patterns and similarities that people more familiar with him are pointing out. The biggest flag on that guy is he just magically appeared out of nowhere. Could just be someone trying to make a name for themselves or just a douchebag in general.

It has been so quiet that they have to sweating themselves. Absolutely no way a big name would be a secret at this point. I’m curious how quick a big top burns down.

So an acquaintance who works at FSU, has been told to be prepared to help roll out for the new coach soon, but no names, no nothing. This is someone who would absolutely need to know because they would be coordinating graphics, etc.

Sounds like they are hopeful that they will have someone, but nothing final. In other words, I think they are still being trolled by coaches looking for raises at their current jobs. Also, there are better jobs available, so the dominoes will have to fall. FSU still thinks they are a top 10 job.

Barring them pulling a magic rabbit out of a hat, they have their fallback option in Haggins.

Out of successful coaches it sounds like they are down to Mike Norvell, who's going to get a lot of consideration because of his low buyout.

That's what a lot of us have thought for a few days, that they'd have to keep Haggins around. I personally would rather see a real candidate like Norvell or Kiffin take the job and be mediocre for a long term rather than Haggins who would be treated as temporary unless he showed progress, which he very well could do, with the right coordinators.

Just visited a Nole site, and they said that they swung and missed on Franklin. His cost was too high for them. They also say he's working on an extension with PSU, so he's running leverage right now.
