It’s always tough to top nostalgia. I think this group is capable of writing its own chapter.

I'm gonna catch flack so f vck you in advance....Can we talk about the offensive line and ability to run the ball too...Taking nothing from Trask or the receivers but it's a helluva lot easier to throw when you can pick up 6 or so on 1st running the ball too.

We added a new look to the running game last night in case anyone was watching that....the deep pitch off the drop back has been there all year and I'm glad to see Mullen figured that out (without over using it) when looking at man coverage.

But yes this is probably the best group of receivers(last years would have been if we had a running game).

We were good last year when we didnt call a fuchsing option, which was rarely. Leaving a DE unblocked with Trash in the backfield was a windowlicker move.

That was simply retarded playcalling, which we finally fixed a little late in November.

True but the offensive line is being slightly overlooked I believe. I mentioned running for 6 or 7 on 1st down but for the first time in years I'm feeling good when we run on 3rd and 3 or 4 yards too. That's keeping the playbook open and the defense chasing their tails. Guys up front are getting it done in protection too. Again taking nothing from Trask or the receivers...we are just firing on all cylinders offensively...

To be fair about yesterday's run game, Arkansas was in a 3-2-6 a lot of the game which invites a lot of running. They are doing a lot better then they were, but they also need to stop getting beat despite a double team. I don't think they are quite where I want them, but are definitely a lot further along than they were and deserve credit for that.

'96 had Hilliard, Anthony, Green, and Erron Kinney at TE. And Danny didn't throw as many passes because we also had a man who would end up a top 20 rushing yards of all time in the NFL as one of three different running backs.

Last year we couldn't run against a middle school 3 man front...there is never shame in taking what the defense gives you as long as you can exploit them when they switch up their look....The running game is also helping to keep the defense off the field.

Doering, Hilliard, Anthony, Green and McGriff were All Americans (3rd team for McGriff).

I've acknowledged there improvement, but improvement doesn't mean I believe they are where I want/think they should be.

Fair enough but remember you're talking to a guy who wants an offensive line so dominate in the run game that we only have to pass for fun or when we get bored of running...:lol2:
My take is this...Trask and the receivers are making the offensive line and running game better because they are pretty damned good. Hopefully the running game can keep the defense honest enough when we play someone better so were not one dimensional. We seemed to have a different look for the game plan running wise last night.

I think we are both in agreement here. I think the passing game is setting up the run. We also have some backs that don't go down with first contact as well. Arkansas had the second worst run d before last night and attacking them with the run made sense as well.

It's hard to use stats to compare guys from different eras when the rules committee does everything they can to make playing defense more illegal every year.

We’ve had some awfully good receivers over the years. I’m convinced we’ve never had a deeper set — or bigger one — than the one we’re playing with now.

Pitts 6-6
Shorter 6-5
Grimes 6-4
Henderson 6-4
Gamble 6-4
Zipperer 6-2

And Kadarius, who is one shifty and tough cat. Oh, and add in the freshman running back from Miami, Wright, who’s really contributing out of the backfield.

How do you cover all these guys? You can’t.

So I’m going to say it: This is the most dangerous group of receivers I’ve seen in my 46 seasons as a Gator.
I gotta say they are catching damned near everything and seem totally in sync with Trask. Its amazing. And then Pitts is out and we dont miss a step.
