Article from The Denver Post:

Patterson is the nephew of former Eustis and UCF standout Joe Burnett, who played in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Patterson has yet to receive a UCF offer.

The recruiting process for the 6-foot-2, 182-pound Patterson has started slowly for a couple of reasons. He didn’t even play football after deciding to concentrate on basketball after his seventh-grade year. He’s also stuck in tiny Eustis, a Lake County school that does not receive much recruiting traffic.

“Me and my dad sat down after my 10th-grade year’s basketball season and he said he thought I should focus more on what I want to do in college, what I love the most,” Patterson said. “I chose football over basketball.”

It’s no surprise Patterson is opening the eyes of recruiters. He’s had two big seasons of football since returning to the game. In 18 games he has had 85 catches for 1,692 yards and 20 touchdowns and averages five catches for nearly 100 yards and a touchdown per game.
Gators offer Eustis WR Tyree Patterson, nephew of former UCF star Joe Burnett – The Denver Post

Napier told him that he reminds him of Calvin Ridley. That is high praise from a former WR coach, who coached Ridley.

Considering the WRs mentioned, I'm shocked we took this kid. Treyaun Webb looks faster than Patterson. I'll just have to trust the coaches on this one. From what I have read, if Patterson continues to camp, he will be a 4 star by signing day. We will see.

Seems like a good route runner and gets a lot of yac. Definitely underrated but definitely should be the floor to a large haul of WRs this year. He plays against tough competition and has great stats. Who's his high school QB?

He attends Eustiss High. I can remember radio commercials from years ago from an auto dealer. "Where the hell is Eusitis'"? Kid is probably not getting the exposure that bigger schools would.

I read somewhere he's faster than he looks because he has such a long stride. Not sure if it was BS or what. All I can say is if our staff really wanted this dude then hopefully their evaluation is sound. When it comes down to it, who they take will determine their future here so it's either foolish to assume they don't know what they're doing, or they're foolish. We'll find out which is it in about 3-4 years.

After watching his film I'd say he fits right in with the receivers we have now who constantly get caught from behind. Welcome aboard! ;)

I've taken a step back since posting this. This kind of take fit with Mullinz and Butters recruiting. They were always settling. I haven't seen CBN and staff settling. From what I have watched so far, this is actually out of character. The truth is, the amount of 3 stars they have truly recruited has been very low. Based on the evidence, they probably really like the kid. I still think we land Wilson (top 100 WR) and another top rated WR.

He seems to have some "elusiveness" in traffic, along with good size and some pretty impressive stats. I saw that he was apparently listed as being a 4.5 type, which is not a burner by any means, but not exactly terrible either. Like others though, I've gotten into a mindset of expecting the worst when it comes to recruiting, and TBH, my first reaction before looking at his film was "Oh schytt", here we go again with the bottom feeder crap. I will admit that he doesn't "look fast" at all, and to my highly untrained eye he's got possession receiver written all over him. He may well turn out to be a solid pick-up, but IMO, we need a huge injection of speed at WR and for that we will have to look elsewhere.

Randy Moss combine results, he was just fast

I always thought he looked taller than that. Speed looks about right though.

Evaluation matters a ton, so prove the homework was right. There are hidden gems if you can find them. In that regard an individual rank isn’t that important.

BUT

If our average isn’t in that .95 range once we’ve got 12-15 commits then the dynamic won’t have changed. You can have a few of those individual reaches but the bulk of the class has to pull us up to top 3-5.
