From that article:

"Ten years to the day of White’s ill-fated trip to Salt Lake City, Foley’s voyage to Fort Collins unfolded like a bungled modern coaching search, with fans and journalists live tweeting along the way. Foley waited a year too long to fire Muschamp and then proceeded to run a search without the same discretion and aggressiveness that allowed him to outfox Notre Dame a decade ago. We’ll reserve judgment on McElwain for what he does on the field. But the lost 2014 season at Florida and squandered opportunities for Foley to hire a more established and bigger name coach shows just how far he and the Gators have fallen."

Ouch.....I've been a Foley supporter through this but sadly I have to admit this is true. He's losing his touch and regarding Muschamp he's also lost his ability to make a timely and proper decision. Sadly this chain of events is snowballing to the point where we may end up like Miami.....Ok with being irrelevant. There could be only one card left up his sleeve to save us from this.

Could you imagine this happening at a true blue chip school like Alabama Ohio State Notre Dame? Hell pedophile state university got their top choice in back to back hires.

Bama? Seriously? Could you possibly have picked a worse example? Before Saban fell from the sky, they ran through a bunch of dudes named Dubose, Franchione and Mike Shula. Franchione and Dubose were two of the biggest hiring debacles in the history of college football. You're comparing a Colorado State President trying to flex a little muscle with the big dog to Alabama's stellar coach hiring history? And Notre Dame? Holy crap, do you not even remember how they looked like Podunk University in 2005 when FLORIDA and FOLEY won the Urban Meyer sweepstakes over them? They ended up with Charlie Freaking Weis! How's that for a "true blue chip school" getting it right.

Ignorant comment.

You talking about the same school that hired Bill Curry, Mike Debose, and Mike Shula? The school that hired Price who then promptly went out and embarrassed them by using the company card on booze and strippers in Pensacola?

Or are the school that just went through a major scandal that resulted in the firing of their coach because their program totally out of control and scandal laden?

Orrrrr maybe you're talking about the same school JUST finished paying Charlie Cheesburger a SEVEN FIGURE annual salary eight years after he was fired and then proceeded to go out and hire Tyrone Whitiiwhatever.?.?.?...

Yep, good thing none of those true blue chip schools have had any embarrassments or setbacks....

I miss the old Matt...:sadnanner:

Original DC,

Nobody is saying that was not a great AD. But in football he has not kept up with the times and has made serious blunders that are being questioned everywhere. For example, after the 4-8, and losing to GSU what elite program keeps their coach. If he would have done the deed last year, we would not have our backs up against the wall. A friend of mine who is a Dawg says they are joking about starting a collection plate to help with the buyout. Nobody is blown away by this hire, and we may have to eat a sht sandwich to get it done.

The injuries killed us last year. The perception, nationally, was that we were only that bad because of unavoidable circumstances. People referenced the 11-2 campaign a year prior and used that as evidence that WM was building something. As much as I disagreed, that would've been a tough PR hurdle for Foley. We were beaten up pretty good after the Zook firing, and he'd never gone 11-2. For that matter, there are some that insist we made the wrong move even after this season. The message would've been that UF only gives you 2-3 years to win, and if you can't you're out.

Ftr, I agree that we should have made the move then. I'm just giving you an idea of why I believe it didn't happen.

Most of us aren't even sure if you're a real Gator fan, so I'm really not interested in your lecturing me. You are exactly like lawgator, you are 100% negative, 100% of the time about everything. He's been this way for years and years, even when we were winning national titles. I hope you give it a rest at some point.

There is more to being the AD at a major university than football and Fooley has made some nice hires in the minor, non-revenue sports. The problem is this is the SEC and outside of KY and Vandy, in the SEC, FOOTBALL pays the FREIGHT. It is why you can't judge all hires equally. Football is the reason I can't stand Fooley and think he is an incompetent, arrogant A**HOLE when it comes to football.

Except that last part where you said they "used" to be better than CSU. JM is the reason that is past tense.

Not sure what you mean by "except". I clearly state JM turned the program around, but he has done it by beating up losing teams. None of his wins in 2013 were against winners. Only 3 of his wins in 2014 were against winners. More importantly, 3 of his 6 losses in 2013 were to teams with non-winning or losing records. He has never won his conference.

I'm not looking for a coach that can beat the perennial losers and also-rans of the SEC like Vandy, Kentucky, or Tenn. I want a coach that can beat the teams that stand in the way of winning SEC championships.

Doug Dickey won multiple SEC championships at Tenn before coming to UF. Charley Pell won an ACC championship at Clemson. Steve Spurrier won one as well. Urban Meyer finished at the top of the MWC both years. If Jmac is hired, he may indeed win championships, but I'm curious as to what in his HBC resume attracted Foley to him in the first place. It certainly wasn't head coaching teams to championships.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but please show me where in anything I posted you see a head ball coach deserving to coach the UF Fighting Gators in the SEC, let alone paying a multi-million dollar buyout.

I'm pretty embarrassed about people's shortsightedness when it comes to Foley. As an Alum and season ticket holder in three sports I wouldn't trade home for anyone. And for all the bathers who do you want instead of Foley?

LOL...forgot all about him. I was playing music at Intermission when he came in "allegedly" asking the bartenders where the hookers were. What a tool he was. Yes Bama was no star on the coach hiring circuit between Stallings and Saban.

We'll see how this plays out,but if we don't get him, it's meant to be and maybe there is something better around the corner
