Franklin isn't the only, or even the best, example. That would be Dabo.
Franklin really hasnt done anything. He has added a win or two to the average vs the previous coach, but he hasnt won a championship.
Dabo of course has, and he is the exception that proves the rule.
To say however that he isnt a great recruiter is wrong. His teams have had the second or third number of five stars for a while now. Even when he took over he had already landed CJ Spiller and some elite receivers (I forget, Watkins and another). He was an elite recruiter going back to the Tommy Bowden days.
He also lost 77- 0 to WVU. He isnt a genius coach, but he is a guy, probably the closest to SOS in modern day, who believes in using the gas pedal on offense instead of driving around with your left foot on the brakes.
Clemson is more a study in what determining to be the other Bammer facility and staff wise does for a program. It took them a couple of years but they were absolutely determined to compete.
They have staffs of three and four dozen doing quality and recruiting assistance too, just like Bammer. Their bump in recruiting more accurately reflects the timing that they upgraded instead of choosing not to compete ala Fooley.
