Recruiting ESD December 2024 until NSD: Top 100 DB J’Vari Flowers commits as late addition

Have you ever considered actually watching a game?
When I first watch the game, I watch for pleasure. I am re-watching the game now for content. It looks to me as if our 2RG (Lovett) was moved to tackle and someone named Mark Pitts is playing right guard. Is that how you saw it? Interestingly, Pitts is a RSJr who walked on at UF turning down SEC scholarships. He already has a M. S. in management. Think he will return for his senior season?
P. S. You do actually know the answers to my questions, don't you? I mean, you are not just some shallow smart-ass who can make negative comments and ad hominem remarks with no actual knowledge, are you?

This goes to my other post... "So, you mean like every other student at every university?"

That's gonna be (and already is) the legal test.
Ok, Then athletes should meet the same damn academic standards as the engineering student.
Why doesn't the typical engineering student get a scholly?
Does every other student get free room and board, healthcare, nutritional support, tutors, books, coached training to further a career?

I'll try to help Law's case here, cuz everything you said there is irrelevant (or will be deemed irrelevant by courts as this progresses)...

People only need to ask one question as a "test" for any proposed rule on student athletes: "Could you put this same rule/restriction on an engineering student who's on scholarship?"
And why are different sports treated differently? A baseball player can be drafted and retain his eligibility, a football player or basketball player does not.

Not to mention the whole Title 9 stuff, that's coming like a freight train.
These Football players "demanding" to get paid big bucks and the star of the women's volleyball team gets squat.

I mean, is that "fair"?

Title 9 doesnt apply to anyone but the university itself.

The girls already blow more than the WNBA.

'We the fans' means nothing because you probably don't contribute anything other than buying gear with the logo on it, or buy tickets to go see a game, hotels to stay at while at the game, food at restaraunts while in town for the game, concessions while at the game...and so on. Guess who doesn't ever see a dime of that money even though that is truly what you are spending that money to see? The university makes a killing from SEC contracts, TV contracts, all that gear your buying...and so on. The player gets nothing.

So maybe think a little bit about 'We the fans' bullchit because in reality, you, nor all of us, have never been a fan of the player, you've been a fan of the University. So dont act like the players owe you a thing because of 'fair'. It hasn't been fair for a century and now that you are getting a taste of the unfairness while the players are starting to get a taste of the fair, maybe you can get a little bit more perspective about real fairness.
I don’t disagree with a lot of what you said. But is is because of “us fans of the university“ that these young players — most of whom will never play in the NFL — are now earning millions to play college ball. The average USFL and XFL team probably has a talent score that averages higher than your typical power 4 college team. But those professional players don’t earn squat solely because of lack of interest and poor ratings. I posit that it is only because “us fans of the university“ — who buy tickets, jerseys, and watch these players on tv — that these young men are now cashing in. “We the fans of the university” aren’t responsible for crap. It’s on the universities that failed to revenue share when they had the chance who are responsible for this crap. I buy tickets and/or donate the school. It’s not the responsibility of “us fans of the university” to foot the bill for fielding a team, or pony up the money to pay for a coach’s buyout for that matter. College football is now a semi-pro league. It’s time to dissociate the football teams from academics, treat these players asemployees and collectively bargain.

My daughter was denied (nursing), despite graduating in the top five of a massive high school that consistently produces some of the best test scores in the state. It’s an academic powerhouse.

(A family friend has a daughter graduate from Manatee High School a few years ago. Valedictorian, and was denied at UF. Several kids below her in her own class are Manatee were accepted.)

There was affirmative action **** going on as well. Three kids of color that were FAR behind her academically got in. Crushed her. She plans on getting an ARNP at UF, so her Gainesville dreams aren’t over yet.

Was accepted in literally every other university she applied for.

Her brother is a baseball player in high school now. Has spoken to ACC and SEC schools, so it’s not out of the question that he gets an offer from UF. He isn’t anywhere remotely close to her as a student, but can sling that ball.

UF has definitely changed.
Texas does the same, passing on legacy admissions in state to accept out-of-staters for higher tuitions. Nephew raised in Texas, went to Texas and played for Mack Brown there. Did extremely well in the oil business, and big donor to Texas. His daughter was denied admission with very respectable grades, and ended up going to rival A&M. I asked nephew, has this affected your giving? “Oh , yes, absolutely.”

I think it’s completely stupid. We are the people that support it all, really.

She chose UNF because they have an excellent nursing program, and she gets to live about five miles from the beach.

She still loves UF. She’ll end up there, at some point. But she was definitely crushed. Is still pissed.

DING, DING, DING....winner. The school spends ungodly amounts on these "student athletes" that is does not on regular STUDENTS....probably up to several hundred thousand per football player in their time at UF or other schools......Sorry Deet, you've been eliminated on this basis....

What makes the most sense would be what I've floated here several times before. Start by taking away the scholarships unless they've academically earned them on a level playing field as regular students. Pay them small base salaries based on TENURE and PERFORMANCE with INCENTIVES....with the option to leave. It was never really that difficult to figure out.

10 person operation. 6 pressure cookers. LOTS of propane.
outside I guess? I'll do about 20 pints or 10 quarts in a day and stop for weeks. We don't need as much now that the kids are gone though. I did a lot more tomatoes this year than in the past.

Obamacare fraud too. People get paid to sign people up to Obamacare plans. Some plans are free to the consumer; 100% subsidized. So a person gets paid to sign up a homeless person. Now the government is taking your tax dollars to pay for that policy. Meanwhile, the homeless person has no idea they have insurance coverage, they never use it. Insurance company pockets the premium payments year after year despite zero medical services being provided.

Canned goods go out of date? Who knew? (I don't really stock canned foods. I'll get a few if their BOGO ... maybe soup or tomato sauce)

those videos are insane. Apparently a lot of people know about the fraud and never said anything before. Obviously any government program will have fraud and abuse but this seems far worse than expected.

Most SNAP people are also on Medicaid (almost a Trillion dollars), section 8 housing, free phones, free internet etc.

Update: she cleaned out their stockpile in the basement and it filled the backseat of a full sized truck. Canned soups, veggies etc. The food pantry was grateful and helped her unload it all. They asked her where it came from. I guess they thought it was a food drive of sorts.

Addicts give the food stamps to dealers for drugs, dealers sell the food stamps to moms with lots kids for a discount. If you've wondered about buying steak and lobster with food stamps...there you go.

interesting and while that does make sense, would throwing it in the trash be the “right” thing to do?

While I would risk using "out dated" nonperishable food items myself, I would not be willing to donate those items.

I need a ruling: two years ago a friend cleaned out her pantry/stock pile and threw away newly expired food like spaghetti sauce, noodles etc. I’d told her she should have donated it to a food pantry and she felt bad. Ffw 2 years and she’s cleaning out again and ready to donate the food but thinks they will shame her for donating recently expired food. I told her they wouldn’t look, nor would they care. Someone would be grateful to have it. AITA?

It wouldn’t bother me to eat something shelf stable that has a recently expired date on it. It’s not like the day before it’s good and 3 days after the date it’s bad.

Dry goods and canned goods stay fine way past their expiration date. The quality may be slightly diminished but they’re safe to consume.
