According to this (REPORT: Mark Stoops met with Florida State officials but is no longer a candidate | Kentucky Sports Radio) Mark Stoops is no longer a candidate after meeting with FSU.

FSU is said to be haughty in its search, with a source stating Thrasher and Coburn are looking to go “big-game hunting.” That in turn points to whether USC retains Helton and, if not, whether it makes a run after Meyer. Franklin is said to want that job if it opens, but he would be second choice after Meyer.

The dominoes, as the thinking is being presented, could lead to Franklin being open to talking to FSU.

So the implication is Thrasher is big game hunting and mark Stoops is not big enough? So why meet with him in the first place? The plan now is to send a fundraising letter and pay franklin apparently. I wonder if he’s clued in on the plan.

You got that right. Stoops was apparently interested but FSU not enough. Like Florida State is such a destination program at this point that it can just wave a magic booster wand at any big name and command an interview.

This is a dangerous time for FSU.

They already screwed up by leading on their fans with Bob Stoops. They’ll be disappointed no matter who they get.

Just like borrowing from a bank to build a home, when boosters fund the bill for a coaching search, they’re going to demand a big say-so on how it’s done. This isn’t so much Thrasher or Coburn declaring the need for a splash hire as it is the deep pockets behind the scenes.

That’s my point - they already missed on the name that would satisfy but they led everyone to believe they had him. There is no splash hire available to make the boosters happy and no they are missing on the B list. They’re in Tennessee territory.

Based on in my reading this afternoon, it appears they have delusions of the stars aligning for a remote shot at Franklin. They’ll probably end up with a Franklin alright — a doofus flying a kite in a blinding rainstorm.

Of course they’re saying that - fans/boosters are losing hope. They’re trying to keep the press positive. After they miss on Franklin, you’ll start hearing about how Haggins has learned under the two best FSU coaches they’ve ever had and that he’s ready for prime time.

Well, USC is trouncing UCLA. Maybe Helton keeps his job and Meyer and Franklin fight over who’s going to coach the school out west.

Or, more likely, the circus acts extends to this coming week’s meeting in the Swamp and the Nolies find a way to put a positive spin on a loss, thus paving the way for your scenario.

Not sure where Norvell fits in all of this. Probably not splashy enough.

It is really starting to look this way. They would be far better off by going ahead and announcing this sooner rather than later.

You mean to help Haggins avoid the embarrassment of being, like Mullen, the third choice?

Didn’t the AD specifically say they wanted someone in place by Dec. 1st?
Clock is ticking, clowns.
