Well I was at the game and before I say anything, Yes, there was some curious calls/non calls by the officials. However I say this with 100% conviction: The officials had ZERO to do with the outcome of that game. It has all been mentioned. Multi double digit leads, a zillion turnovers by USCe, etc. etc. etc., so there is no way a few bad calls would make a difference. Even if UF wins that game by 2 or 22, I still would have come home with a sore neck, b/c I was shaking my head so hard wondering what Mike and his guys are doing in the half court offense. This team can only get a decent look at the basket in transition, off an offensive rebound or in a scramble situation. When they are forced to play in the half court, the design is this: The play is designed to create a shot, hopefully, after 1 pass and 1 pass only. After that it is try and create individually, while every player without the ball just stands and watches. It is just as sad as sad can be. Sure all looks fine when you make 3's, but just by watching the game, Mike and his staff have ZERO ability to get anyone a decent look unless it is after 1 pass. There is no half court offense, none!!!!!
Regardless of the outcome, even if it had been what looked like an easy win for UF, here were my takeaways during the game. USCe is awful and they are not going to the tourney. Not just the NCAA tourney but no post season tourney. I see no way they finish anywhere near a .500 record in SEC play. UF, in its current state, will not make the NCAA tourney, and will battle to reach the NIT. Even when they hit 3's, they are not a very good team. they play good defense, but relying on 3's in transition to win games is too haphazard. They have no way to stress or put any pressure on any defense in the half court, none!!!!!!!
But I am done giving Mike SHYT for his inability to coach half court offense. Anyone who has played or coached basketball can plainly see that. Mike is like a zillion coaches in different sports: Jason Garrett, Marvin Lewis, MusChimp, Mike Gundy, Mike Stoops, Steve Alford, Mark Fox, Tom Crean, , etc................................. They do just enough every now and then or catch a break that gives you a small glimmer that they may climb to the mountaintop, but in reality it is thru some dumb luck that happens. In the meantime they keep their jobs all the while wallowing in the mire. The final numbers are never obviously fireable, but if you watch the product on a game to game basis, you see some of the worst fundamental play and coaching you could ever imagine.
