2016 - 1 (Antonneus Clayton no longer with the team @GTech)
2017 - 0
2018 - 0
2019 - 1 (Chris Steele no longer with the team @ USC)
2020 - 2 (WINGO and Dexter) only one of those has seen the field
2021 - only 1 so far and he is a DB

Defensive Tackles
2016 - no DT's taken
2017 - only 2 and one medically retired. The other is Campbell. *** Slaton listed as OL but we knew we wanted him as DT
2018 - no DT's taken
2019 - only one (humphries) who hasn't smelled the field
2020 - 4 and they're all freshman

2016-2019 only 3 DT's signed and only one of them has played

Defensive Backs
2017 - 6 signed Henderson (NFL) Edwards (transferred), Stiner, Stewart, Davis, Wilson
2018 - 2 signed Dean, Huggins (dismissed)
2019 - 3 signed Elam, Steele (transferred to USC), Hill, **Kimbrough
2020 - 7 signed Wilcoxson, McDaniel, Pouncey, Rogers, Graham, Johnson, Helm, Torrence

I would add inside linebacker recruiting to this shytlist. The LB list is so skewed bc we have so many Rush specialists on it.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS
2018- no ILBs Lil Reese was a safety expected to transition inside and Chatfield was a Rush specialist
2019- no ILBs with an asterisk (Pierre). Hopper (4* #46) and Pierre (3* unranked) both listed as OLBs. Hopper was mostly a safety in HS. Pierre played some ILB and is now ILB sized.
2020- 1 signed. Wingo (5* #31) played mostly standup edge rusher but projected by Rivals as an ILB.

So we werent recruiting linebackers and DTs. What WERE we recruiting? Edge Rushers, baby, AND LOTS OF 'EM (considering this is a specialist position that should only see the field on third and long) they also tend to be our most talented players according to Rivals. And they are all lined up trying to play the same position.

RUSHBACKERS
Butters leftovers: Moon (6'5 250) Z Carter (6'4 247-- the real success here, now 290 but being forced to play DT instead of SDE bc of roster malpractice)
2018 Chatfield (4* 6'1 214 now 248) Langham (transferred) now Lil Reese (6'2 241)
2019 Summerall (4* 6'6 210 now 230) Bogle (4* 6'5 215 now 240) Diabate (6'4 220 now moved to ILB, rocky transition) transfers Greenard Cox
2020 Princely (4* 6'4 234) Powell (3* 6'3 230)

It's hard to play D without D players.

2018 we also signed another DB (Russell) who was a medical hardship, never saw the field. 2018 we signed a scrub SDE Malik Langham, who transferred after less than a year.

The DL recruiting is completely negligent. Most of us spoke up about it...only to get the "trust the coaches" bullsh*t. Well, this is what happens when you "trust the coaches".

Here's another issue - why did we take Jordan Pouncey (WR) as a transfer (who did practically nothing at Texas and was a low 3-star out of HS)? We should have (or could have) used a DT in that spot (like the kid that left Miss State, that Mullen/Grantham recruited out of HS and is playing for FSU now - Lovett?)...or any other DT transfer. The need was along the DL, especially after Conliffe was ruled out, not WR.

We are not confident enough with the corners to play tighter coverages. We are also poor against the run.
However the latter can be helped by playing a sam instead of Stewart at star. If it were me the star would
be scrapped, and Davis and Stewart are the safeties. Diabate is the sam and Cox the buck. This puts
better run defenders in play and has them at their more natural position. I don't think MD is comfortable inside,
but I do know he can play sam. He's without question one of our best defenders as well. A big part of our problem is
we are giving up too many yards on 1st down, and even when we win first down we give up a chunk play
on 2nd and long.

For example on Saturday when the score was 28-17. They get a PF on the kickoff and
started at the 13. They simply ran the ball down the field. Something like 7 straight run plays. They have
a 1st down at our 12, and Zach wins up front getting a TFL. So great we won that down and need to follow that
up with sound defense to hold the opponent to a FG attempt. Instead they complete their one pass of the drive down to the 3, for a 3rd and one and score on the next play. This bunch is going to give up yards, but we need to do much better on redzone defense . On the drive
I just mentioned we started the series with Cox and Moon on the line in an EVEN front. We can't do this against any team that
runs the ball in our league. I believe Grantham went with this look because he was expecting them to go away from the ground game since they were down two scores. He was wrong.

Weve done this literally every series this year as far as I have noticed. I havent seen ZC at any place other than DT. In fact, the only time we didnt have TWO 240 pounders on the DL is when we sub fuchsing Bogle at DT and we have THREE.

we're going to get some sacks off blitzes.

  • we are good at CB.

I think V Miller played pretty good today, not elite by any means, but okay.

first and foremost we need another linebacker badly. I just don't know how to do that. Burney has no instincts inside he's always been a safety. he should be a strong safety or a hybrid. same with Dean.
Just bumped this so that everyone can see that Donk thinks we are good at CB.

I did see Humphries out there for a handful of snaps Saturday, and he got manhandled. Moon always seems to be on
the field despite never making plays. The doofus even managed to knock Brad out of the game when he forced the fumble.
