My immediate thought on reading this hypothetical was UF's D would have to suck and UF would have to be playing from behind all year.

Then I went and looked at Mullen's past team and (leading passer) numbers from ESPN:

2018: 2606 (2457)
2017: 2043 (1782)
2016: 2590 (2287)
2015: 3733 (3413)
2014: 3196 (2996)
2013: 2884 (1657)
2012: 3091 (2897)
2011: 2235 (1083)* Something looked a bit funny about the second number here to me.
2010: 2143 (1508)
2009: 1730 (1444)

So now I am thinking sudden death on the part of Mullen, Spurrier as an emergency coach and Franks as a quicker study under Spurrier than we think. Or maybe Trask wins the job, those are his numbers not Franks and SD follows Mullen into a tragic sudden death.

Not saying it happens, but God knows i wish it did. Just wondering if those numbers would erase the hate. FF aint so bad. With coaching he is starting to show his talant.

Never say never but that would be a shock. He may be forced to pass more if our running game isn't as stout as last season.

I don't get it. Franks completes a lot of long passes. 20 yards in the air should be considered a long pass and Franks can throw a frozen rope that far. He's gotten better at threading the needle too quick for the DB to react. That's what I choose to look for.

He's getting better at finding receivers downfield. Let's hope the improvement continues. The gun was never an issue. He's got a long way to go before we can call him a polished passer.

People are crazy with this entire 3500 yards talk.

The only way I could see that ever happening is if we went to the SEC championship game, won that, and then went to two playoff games.

Over 15 games he would have to average 233 yards passing. And I think that’s pushing it for him. But let’s not kid ourselves – 233 yards is not elite by any stretch of the imagination.

For those that cannot recall, here are his stats from last year (people are acting like he’s set the world on fire toward the end of the season…)

233 per game over 15 with the ups and downs that naturally would occur is damn near elite, and we'd obviously go far on that propellant. However, I can't see it happening for a number of reasons beginning with Mullen and ending with Franks.

In looking back over Mullen's career I was a bit surprised how often he played more than one QB during a season. That is another reason to doubt that Franks puts up those kinds of totals.

Franks is taking every snap this year until injury takes him out. The spring game convinced me of that.

I can see him flirting with 3,000 if he stays healthy. He should get at least a bit better at reading the defenses, but I really like that he’s working on putting more air under the ball.

If he hits 3,000 it will be because our WRs made some big plays, which they are capable of.

My guess is it won't take a huge season for Franks to declare early with the goal of being a mid- to late-rounder. I think it would be a mistake, but there are going to be people in his ear telling him to go for it.

How good is next year's QB class anyway? That could be a deterrent.

I agree, even a mediocre year is enough to make him go. It may be a mistake, but I also see absolutely nothing to bring him back. A GREAT year obviously boosts his stock and he jumps at a bigger paycheck. A bad, or even mediocre year, says Mullen isn't able to make him much better than he is, what would another year of that really gain him?

I don't think he gets to 3k because I bet he runs a good bit more. I think he gets 500 rushing yards this year. He should throw for over 3k with this WR unit though.

Big plays by WRs come from Franks getting the long-ball to them. And Franks did that last year. Much depends on Mullen's play-calling .
