Just to expound on my dislike for these uniform changes, it’s not about me being some type of stick in the mud old man(though I may be in other aspects of life). But one of the great things about winning, and having a mental edge over someone or something is that the mere sight of you coming immediately evokes a memory of failure and defeat at your hands. I get that our runs over teams like uga, ut, Uk and even the noles were largely because we were just better. But there’s definitely something to be said about an opponent seeing a jersey and/or helmet and thinking they have no chance, especially when the game starts to get away from them. It’s why I don’t mind incorporating some of these themes against the Vanderbilt or cupcake types, where it really doesn’t matter. But why take away any preexisting edge and give the other team a fresh start feeling, as if a team other than the UF that has owned them, is standing across the field?
There isn’t a single player on that team, outside of a few RS Srs, that has ever tasted victory over the Gators. But the few that did in ‘16 likely remember one thing—it was the only time in the last 3 decades that we wore an alternate uniform against them. For nearly every other vol team since 1990, that script, and that traditional uniform(home or away) had spelled doom. Openly said or not, it makes them tremble. And rather than playing into that and utilizing its psychological advantage, we’re electing to throw it aside. It’s maddening to me, regardless of whether or not we ultimately need it.
