Well, I thought it was over when Davis fumbled out of the end zone. It just felt like UT had stolen the momentum and as usual we would just fall apart. Glad to see I was wrong. The Gators somehow found a way to win even when they were beaten all over the field. I'm not sure if I've ever seen such a display of missed tackles. Our DBs are the world's worst at it. They dive and whiff more times than they make the tackles. It's pathetic. I'd have every one of them tackling tackle dummies all week. NEVER, EVER leave your feet! You have zero control of your body once your feet leave the ground. Hit, wrap, and drive through the tackle. Gezzz I learned that at the Boy's Club. Our coaches obviously don't stress fundamentals like they should. Too too many times we were out of position (do we ever bother to cover TEs?), or completely whiff on the tackles. It's going to be a long long season if this kind of undisciplined play continues.
Final play of the game....I have very mixed feelings. I was expecting some kind of play designed to hit the sideline for about 8-10 yards and only take 3-4 seconds off the clock to move Eddie into range to win. Instead we call a hail Mary. Ballsy, yes, and it worked, but I don't think that's the typical call in that situation when you've got a kicker that can make em from 77 yards. Someone above made the comment Franks bailed the staff out and I agree. That throw was what we all knew he was capable of and have been waiting to see more usage of that elite arm. He might become something real special for the Gators if the coaches will just trust him a little bit.
p.s. I broke two casters on my foot stool slamming it on the floor in a rage during this game...so much anger at seeing my Gators playing like they've never practiced or had any coaching. They deserve better.
p.p.s. So I've been corrected multiple times now, it wasn't actually a hail Mary play. It was intended to go to the sideline as I expected, but Franks was flushed out of the pocket and a DB peeked a tad bit too long and Cleveland got behind him and Franks threw an absolute strike from 63 yards away. Amazing play by Franks and Cleveland.
