Awful evening from so many perspectives. It started with Pitts blowing kisses to his teammates from a PC cam. I’m sorry. If you felt that much love for them, what were you doing home in a den watching on TV?
I’ve got a problem with the idea of players getting a free ride while expecting a free reign over which games they play. It sends a bad message regardless how much USD is at stake. It’s selfish. Just my opinion.
We weren’t any better at the end of the year than the beginning. Opposite. We regressed on defense (if that’s humanly possible) and the next man up on receiver was MIA. How could these guys be that unprepared for a bowl game in which they were needed? Drop after miserable drop, sloppy routes, you name it. Embarrassing.
Which brings me to Trask, the warrior who never complains no matter how bad a dish handed him by his enigmatic coach or selfish teammates. He wasn’t going to miss his last game as a Gator for anything, and that included the risk of injury in an ad hoc environment that was ripe for it. He’s an exceptional athlete and human being and as pleasant of a surprise in a Gator uni as I can think of.
I feel bad he was left to sacrifice his image on a national stage on an evening that felt more like a circus than a bowl game. And yet I never saw a hint of frustration on his face. That’s the Trask I’ve come to know and am gonna miss.
