What if we didn't fire Muschamp...

This is the height of irony. Any time someone tries to explain a context that might cast any positive light on Muschamp, or even lift any unreasonable blame from him, you dismiss it and rationalize ways to remove the clear explanation in order to reestablish blame on him. He's going to be fired - 99% certain. ...but that's not enough for some here. He needs to be demonized, his historical success stripped, and his character assassinated.

I agree with you. His record is what it is and he is gone. I'm fine with that because I long for better times. But I'm amazed and even saddened by the overabundance of posters on this board who feel they must not just attack the record, which stinks, but the individual.

It would take a very confident new head coach to keep him around. The probability of a divided locker room goes up if he stayed, but it would help with continuity in recruiting defensive players and the scheme. Highly unlikely he stays all things considered.

Moronic. Like the new coach would want the former, highly unpopular one on the staff. Ridiculous.

You never demote someone and keep them around. This is just asking for trouble.

Plenty of assistants get demoted and stay around, but certainly not the HC. Since I'm not in the locker room, I don't know how popular Muschamp is or isn't, but he has been over his head since day one as a HC. Most guys have a winning system or idea when they arrive and then adapt it as the game evolves years down the road. Muschamp pulled the plug on his "program" in year 3 because it was doomed from the start. He does know how to coach the D though.
You'd be paying Muschamp double time, buying out his current contract and then adding an assistant's contract on top of it.
It doesn't work that way.

In fact, whatever he gets paid once he gets his next position coach or DC job will offset what we owe him per year. In otherwords if the number is 3mil and he makes 750 from Barn next year, we only pay him 2.25m.

He's not staying. The pumpers left in the stands were yelling fire Muschamp. There's little doubt in my mind he'll never be a HC again, but he can probably take his pick of DC jobs.

Do you think Durkin would step back to linebacker coach to be retained?
No, and he shouldn't.
I have said I don't want him retained, but several have. I doubt he finds himself a DC job, hell I don't know what ties he has and where he can land. I figured he would consider if the next coach wanted him

While I do not believe he stays.... some school will be the recipient of a good DC.

You guys don't think one of the smaller schools will hire Muschamp to be their head coach? I do. It's stupid, but that's what's going to happen. Possibly next season.

I think he could end up on Michigan's coaching staff. He's going to be the hottest dc hire when the coaching carousel starts. A major program will shopping a dc.

I agree. Hell, Zook ended up at a Big 10 school....and Weis ended up at Kansas after sucking royal in his tenure here AND at ND.

Wait! Who knows big boys' plans. Foley may stay with WM another season no matter what?
