I don’t think its as clear cut as many assume. Trask has looked great, mostly, but his inability to run has handicapped the offense’s ability to run the ball. Or stated better, the coach’s inability to adapt to his lack of mobility has handicapped the rushing offense. Either way, I think most here agree Mullen isn’t changing anytime soon and neither is the requirement to run effectively as the QB.

So, does FF stay around and win back the job? Does KT keep it and CDM find a way to adapt? Does EJ, who has good pretty good and opens up the rushing game in his limited touches, take over? Does AR surprise everyone and take the reins as a true freshman? Or, does CDM quit holding back the true superstar - Sproles - and let this offense really take off?

State your reasons and why.

No it doesn't - our O line just can't run block for the RBs worth a damn and probably wont be much better next season. I bet with Jones the RBs still have crappy numbers. Franks is a big liability in that situation. Heck the LSU QB ran for more than Franks last season I think.

I’m sure they do. They are all over social media. It’s all they have ever known and they are are drawn to it like magnets. I don’t personally know any players anymore but when I did they read the boards. They were told not to post but there no way to stop them from reading.
Message boards aren't social media. This is a platform for "old and white" guys, which is probably something a millennial would tell you.

it's not really about how much he runs, it's about how much he makes the DE/EMOL stay home. the running game got better because the defense started respecting the threat of Frank's running even if it was just a small threat.

we're still running mostly option. (run we do run some inside outside zone concepts but that also just doesn't fit our player skill set because they aren't good at combo blocks and determining on the fly which lineman should climb to the next level.) that's why the offensive line looks bad to the uneducated, thats why people keep screaming about the tackle not blocking the the backside defensive end.

We haven't adapted the offense in the slightest to the fact that we have a non-running quarterback, and by now I think it's obvious that we are never going to.

if trash starts running 10 to 15 times a game it'll probably change things, if they don't break him again.

the running backs struggling in Dan mullen's offense is nothing new. The quarterback is almost always the leading or second leading rusher, by design.

Combo blocks and climbing to the next level my ass!!! I'd be happy if one of these lard asses just leaned on the guy in front of him instead of seeing them standing around 2 yards deep in our backfield looking at our crumpled up RB laying on the ground next to them....:headslap:

Jones will be the starter, Franks will move on to what he'll consider bigger and better things, and there will be an offseason competition between Jones and Trask.

Unfortunately for Trask, he's in the same boat as he was in high school, he's a square peg in a round hole when it comes to Mullen's offense.

I think EJ will be very good in Mullen's offense because he's a good fit for it.

For the record, I love the way Trask has slung the ball all over the place this season, we'd easily be a 4 or 5 loss team without him replacing Franks.

I don't hate Franks or begrudge him for moving on, he has to do what's best for him.

The one time I met the kid he was a nice guy and very respectful to everyone around him.

So to be clear, you are saying Trask is staying but will be benched?

I really don't think so. The way Trask is playing, and the way he's handled himself in his time at UF, I don't think there's anyway he gets benched or loses his job. It stinks because I really like EJ and so I hope he sticks it out one more year before taking the reigns. But there's just no way you can sit a kid who came in and essentially saved the season. Mullen has to know his preferred offense is not exactly what UF fans generally want to see. They'd prefer watching us open it up through the air as we have this year. Obviously it will change to a degree once KT leaves. But now that they've had a taste of that, if he were to bench Trask for a more run-based offense, he'd have to score 50 points in every contest to keep there from being a full blown mutiny. Add in Grantham walking the sidelines, and he may as well retain a realtor now because '20 would without question be his last year.

I think we see a step back in the passing game because of a step back at WR. But I think Trask starts, is the primary, but Jones has major packages in every game, similar to Tebow in 2006.

I think FF is done. I wish him the best. Trask would probably be starter but does Dan open the competition with EJ to run “his” offense.

Next year Trask passes better because he'll not worry about his knee, and because he's had the off-season to ruminate thoughts only a star QB can mentally practice. He'll achieve better run effectiveness given no fear of knee injury. Mullen should coach-scheme our RBs to supply the successful run yardage.

Correct.

I think if Trask doesn't opt for the draft(which is a long shot), I think he stays because he's that loyal to UF.

I don't disagree with a thing you're saying, I just think EJ is more of a Mullen-type guy, and I think his hand was forced into Trask replacing Franks to win that Kentucky game.

Mullen is stubborn enough to start EJ, and that's probably what he'll do.

My point is some of these players probably read this trash we write here. As a group we shouldn't be advocating for the coach to Kerrigan them.

I live in South FL. Amy Fisher, the porn star/Long Island Lolita lives one neighborhood over. So does Vanilla Ice's ex wife. Vanilla lives a few blocks away too. Too much violence, we're all pacifists now.
Just a question... But what the hell does a porn star, and Vanilla Ice have to do with advocating for violence or pacifism?.?.?. Other than maybe thinking that'd be impressive to other posters... Which in and of itself, is unimpressive.

If Trask returns knowing he's being benched, he's a fool.

Unless of course he has no interest in the NFL, then it doesn't matter. Otherwise, he shouldn't be losing millions out of loyalty to UF. He's been a great ambassador and should be able to chase his dream, if that's what he wants.

I don't disagree on the stubborn part. Most are. But if he does that, anything outside of some type of title, or a top 10 offense, he's in trouble.

Yep, I agree completely.

Maybe I'm overestimating Mullen's stubbornness, but that's just how I see it playing out.

He absolutely deserves to chase his dreams and have a shot at the NFL.

Who knows, maybe he grad transfers if he gets beat out, but that doesn't seem to be his personality.

Until this season, he was very much an unknown commodity and a joke we made at Law's expense on the message board.

The fact that he turned out to be the best qb we've had here since #15 was a very welcome surprise, and there'd be plenty of teams that would want him.

Let me also add that possible scenario to the "hope you haven't unpacked everything yet" category. A transfer from Trask, given his character to date, would all but guarantee he was not getting a shot and we were making massive changes to the O. With his current fan following, that would be worse than the JM/Grier situation and would ultimately lead to Mullen's dismissal.

I honestly shudder to think of any of those hypotheticals actually playing out.

I agree. Just the gut feeling I get about how this plays out.

Out of curiosity, would you feel the same if Franks came back and was the game 1 starter next year?

That would piss me off more than EJ "winning" the job.
