Let's just say for the sake of argument that the backups are actually that bad. Let's say they're turnover machines even in practice. Let's just say that if we threw them out there we would have lost 45-0 tonight with 4 interceptions and 2 fumbles. Let's just say that because that is what Mac is essentially telling us.

So as head coach when do you let the fans see what you see? Do you do it against FAU and risk losing to an FCS team at home. Do you risk getting blown out at home against your biggest rival? Do you do it against 'bama on a national stage ? Put your HC hat on. The only reason you are putting the backups in is to let the fans see just how bad they are. Does that make sense?

The backups are
1) Jacob Guy, a walk-on that played on the scout team last year.
2) Josh Grady, a 6' 0" transfer from Vandy who in his 4 year career there was 3-7 for 27 yards and two interceptions. Oh and they moved him to receiver in his final year.

So which of those two studs do you start in place of Treon. As horrible as Treon is those two could quite possibly be worse.

I think we are just screwed guys.
This X 1000 . In another thread I described Harris as Muschamps Posion pill for our program. TH was going to be a Safety for FSU until champ brought him in to play QB here. This is just the final reminder of Muschamps incompetence and piss poor roster construction. Mac is stuck in a rock and a hard place with this one, and thanks to an over zealous NCAA we will have tough first 6 games next year too.

Guy isnt even good enough to get the backup reps right now.

I think if we had Brindise or Guy back behind that OL we would have had a dozen sacks tonight.

I think in your misplaced anger over Grier getting himself banned you forget that Treon dodged a number of sacks tonight.

At some point, even you will be forced to admit your boy cant play at this level.

Mac is a little too fatherly in approach and will get abused by "kids". The jury on development and innovation is still out, but we've seen an 11 game winner out of the gate, with someone else's recruits, stubbornly crash and burn. But, we have to give him a chance with the talent he can recruit this side of the Mississippi.

Okay, everyone take a deep breath. In......out......

Mac wasn't dealt a good hand this year, we all knew it. No OL, and Grier getting suspended was the nail in the coffin of any real chance we had, and that's something you can't pin on Mac. Calling for his firing at this point is lunacy. NO college coach gets judged on his first year, even if they lose every game - and we won 10 of them. Obviously he isn't getting fired, so continuing to float the idea out there is only going to create a lot of useless drama and name calling. It's a waste of bandwidth.

As far as Treon, it's probably just a combination of disastrous QB's behind him combined with a loyalty that Mac feels he needs to show. Maybe he feels benching him will upset the team, who knows?

I still feel the program is headed in the right direction.

I defy any of you to name me one coach, living or dead, who could have taken the team as it is, and beaten FSU.

They could've beaten FSU last night. No doubt in my mind. There is only one player holding this team back.

That game was winnable even with our roster. Add half way decent QB play and we would have taken an early lead and the crowd would have been fired up and helped us stay in the game.

Dear URGB,
With a better kicker and QB, there are many coaches that could have beaten FSU, but I said "as it is".
But anyway, who do you suggest could have beaten FSU, ? Pop Warner, Zupke, Knute Rockne, Bud Wilkerson, Bear Bryant?

My comment remains the same.

Yes, I knew venting was good. How many injuries and property damage were saved by being able to vent on Gatorchatter? I should be given a medal by the governor.

However, calling for firings and wishing injuries are ridiculous and over-the-top. Some of you need to step away from the keyboard.

Won't happen. The way this year ends there will be no locker room tension or division when Mac allows things to go in a different direction away from Treon for next year. The whole team will have lived it and they will know it's for the best.

I have two thoughts this morning:

1. McElwain can forget about being chosen Coach of the Year.

2. There is a strong likelihood that Treon will be carried off on a cart before the end of next week's game.

As I stated above this was one the worst called games I've ever seen. Yet the last 4 weeks have been the exact same....So tell me at what point do you try something different? Didn't the greatest coaches we've seen at UF always add a wrinkle when their offense was getting stale. As much as I despise Urban he never would have gone 4 games without mixing things up. SOS, you're kidding me, he would have reverted to the Wishbone before putting that turd of a game on the field last night. We were running the ball somewhat effectively in the first half and may have been able to wear them out after a while. Why would you ever take one of the worst throwing QB's and repeatedly throw into one of the most talented defensive secondary's repeatedly over and over and over.....just wasting downs, especially on first down. Somebody didn't watch enough game film from the GT and Clemson games if you ask me.
Yes, we COULD be headed in the right direction but if we seen the same QB and game plan next year we will be 1-5 by the time Golden Boy Grier makes it back....

This goes back to Muschamp offensive recruiting. We have Taylor and Calloway as weapons and that is all. Muschamp did give us Grier and we see the difference a QB can make, but he has no other QBs on the roster who can play. Look at the good teams... They have backups that can come in and execute. Treon can't do that.

I also think they need to run some zone reads with Treon and use his legs. Who cares if he gets hurt
