No offense, but that is a crap study based on interviews of a persons past 5 years of relationships (Wave3 data). It also does no separate self defense out of reciprocal violence or ant type of injury severity, if that would even be possible based on antidotal interviews. The conclusion is basically that reciprocal violence needs more study.

This x 1000. One of my best friends was going through a divorce with a woman with borderline personality disorder. His wife tried to pitch a rape and battery story to law enforcement. Fortunately our boy was smart enough to send a safety text to all our female friends and the chick was stupid enough to threaten him with it ahead of time. Literally nothing happened to her for making a false report.

The only side of this story we have right now is the accuser's and some of the stuff she was telling the reporter, especially about the 2009 report has some holes in it - like what was her role in the violence. Contrary to what most of us from healthy relationships assume, violence is usually reciprocal. In cases where it is nonreciprocal the woman is the attacker in between 65%-75% of the cases (most of which is unreported) depending on which study you are reading. A lot of what we think we "know" about DV is just flat wrong. That's why I think it is important that people are only convicted in court where they have counsel and a right to cross examination.

I used to be all aboard the "bury them under the jail" crowd, and I still am with anyone - male or female - that terrorizes the people that love and trust them; but I'm not as knee jerk as I used to be about it now that I've learned a little bit more.

He basically sent her threats to five of our friends that are female. It documented the time and date that she said she was going to claim something false if he didn't do what she wanted. That way, when she did and he was questioned he had something on hand to show the detectives that showed up. Given that text was sent roughly a week before the battery was supposed to have taken place, it basically undermined her credibility right off the bat.

This particular DV "relationship" offered an ideal time to educate all readers of the safest sequential path for handling it. Those who best know these dangers are the folks who run the "safe-houses" for battered women. Those folks will tell that first you have to surreptitiously insulate, isolate the victim from the "reach" of the abuser.
We can all "fill in the blanks" on what would have transpired had Meyer "knee-jerk" fashion had called Zach Smith in and said, "Zach, I know you have choked your wife. You're fired." So Z. Smith goes home, starts drinking, with his "punching bag" wife right there.??

Seems to me, the needed order must be :
First & foremost, the victim-wife must initiate & agree with "barrier" separation from her abuser.
Once that's set, .turn all over to experts for solo counseling for Zach, solo for her . Later, after passing the tests via consent of wife-victim give counseling for path to reconciliation (doubtful) or divorce. Now, OSU could pay for this.
