Heh…Ouch, that almost hurt, Dudette. I spent 86 days on Parris Island being verbally abused daily by professionals. Gots to go B.I.G.G.E.R. than that to get more than a mild semi-smirk outta me.

Coach Napier caused Vince Lombardi to pop into my mind.?? That's a long-forgotten name for me. Why? Out of the blue.?
Gotta wait to see. Meanwhile, Naps ain't napping. "Damn these GC torpedoes, full speed ahead."

I don't hate the guy or anything and if he wins then great. It's just that we went from hiring a guy who was a HCIW to a guy who was a HC at a directional school, to a guy who used to lose to directional schools, and now back to a HC from a directional school.....anyone else see my point? It makes no sense. And just because he coaches under Saban is no guarantee(see Butters/Muschamp)....I don't mind the hire if it is the back up plan but for Christ sakes take a swing for the bleachers before trying to lay down a bunt....
Crete, he's been vaccinated! Give the the man a break.

Whats different is we finally dished out the same amount of $ that Alabama and Ga spend on asst coaches and support staff. We have never done that before. CR was an absolute grand slam hire for a CB coach. If we fill out the staff with Seider , Lupoi, and some of the other names being rumored he will have put together an amazing staff that can recruit and coach. Our new football facility will open up this year. He has done more recruiting in 4 days than the last staff has done all year. This just feels completely different to me than the last three bozos. If he can’t get the job done in 3 to 4 years, then he will be gone. But what I have seen so far in 4 days looks pretty good.

So hang on, hang on... do you not see the issue with your whole argument? IF... If we do this... If we do that... we have been sayign IF we do something for the last decade. I do agree on the LSU DB coach, and said so in that thread (which Ox was unable to read). The fact that it feels different is what everyone has been fuching been saying all three hires...

If we do the things that are rumored, it's all great.. But that is still a huge MF'ing IF.

By the way comparing recruiting to last group, is like comparing heights between Shaq and URG... I got blasted when I said that Butters was a better recruiter that Mullen two years ago... because Mullen was that fuching lazy.

Well, first I got sent to Ox's mind improvement camp. Then I got my third COVID vaccine booster that has since given me a cheek tic. Then my brother notices my check tic is twitching in morse code. Being a retired Navy veteran I asked him what my cheek tic message was in morese. He said with a raised eyebrow, "Must.....respect....the.....Ox." over and over again. Then he asked me with a questioning look, "WTF is Ox?"

Ox has me on double secret probation, because I'm questioning his mancrush on Napier... so I have to behave a little bit.

I've held my .02 for a few days mostly because a lot of great points have already been made; but also I wanted to think of a coherent response. Naturally, decided to hit the bottle hard to come up with one, so here goes:

1) the state of the program is poor; but Napier is a good CEO type to correct a lot of the issues that have popped up. I was underwhelmed at first--but after doing more research, he's a detail-oriented guy and will put in the work. Hard work won't guarantee success, but it doesn't hurt.

2) I have no idea what type of coach he'll be here or what to expect. I was excited about Meyer...and that's it. Everyone else had a lot of question marks that tempered blind optimism. I think if we're being truly objective here: there's a lot to like about Napier, but there's also a lot of questions too (all of which have been mentioned, so won't repeat). Hoping for the best though and do think he sees the big picture.

3) as for the board: I get the spirit of what Ox is/was trying to do. Fan pressure can be a huge anchor on any coach and giving him a fair shot is important. I loved the podcasts/open forums you did these last few weeks--that got me a bit more excited about the hire and filled in some gaps in my knowledge about the guy and what he brings to the table. Not that my .02 is worth much, but that's where I'd focus my energies instead of policing opinions. And bring Donk back--idk whether it's sad or entertaining, but when I first read his comment that stroked your ire, it didn't even merit a double-take in the thread--Donk makes comments like that all the time! Part of his charm.

I came very close to sending you to one of my mind camps for 3 days, but I'm trying to get better with that.

My absolute favorite scene in the Sopranos was one day Tony pulling in the his back parking space at the Bada Bing. As he pulled up and got out some of his boys were beating the dog shyte out of someone out in the parking lot. He walked over and demanded, "WTF is going on here." One of the guys looked up and saiid, "Tony, he disrespected the Bing." Tony said, "Oh, okay, Go ahead."

I feel like that's what we have here. No one should disrespect the GC. Otherwise there will be a virtual parking lot beat down. But I guess Ox's mind improvment camp is the next best thing.

You really see absolutely no difference in this approach by the university compared to the last 3 hires? None?
No....in fact anyone who looks at this hire and process to come to some other conclusion is lying to themselves or delusional....

We went out and made Mr. Potato Head our first and ONLY choice....that reeks of laziness or complete incompetence....nothing has changed....nothing.
If someone else(I would have made him the 3rd or 4th choice) turns us down then fine....Tell Karl he has 2 years to change the direction of the program but be looking for his replacement after year one.....That's how you handle a big time program these days.
