I've held my .02 for a few days mostly because a lot of great points have already been made; but also I wanted to think of a coherent response. Naturally, decided to hit the bottle hard to come up with one, so here goes:
1) the state of the program is poor; but Napier is a good CEO type to correct a lot of the issues that have popped up. I was underwhelmed at first--but after doing more research, he's a detail-oriented guy and will put in the work. Hard work won't guarantee success, but it doesn't hurt.
2) I have no idea what type of coach he'll be here or what to expect. I was excited about Meyer...and that's it. Everyone else had a lot of question marks that tempered blind optimism. I think if we're being truly objective here: there's a lot to like about Napier, but there's also a lot of questions too (all of which have been mentioned, so won't repeat). Hoping for the best though and do think he sees the big picture.
3) as for the board: I get the spirit of what Ox is/was trying to do. Fan pressure can be a huge anchor on any coach and giving him a fair shot is important. I loved the podcasts/open forums you did these last few weeks--that got me a bit more excited about the hire and filled in some gaps in my knowledge about the guy and what he brings to the table. Not that my .02 is worth much, but that's where I'd focus my energies instead of policing opinions. And bring Donk back--idk whether it's sad or entertaining, but when I first read his comment that stroked your ire, it didn't even merit a double-take in the thread--Donk makes comments like that all the time! Part of his charm.
