The difference you seem to be missing is this: During the YEAR a player is a red shirt, his classes, room and board, are paid for by a full athletic scholarship. The 6 months the gray shirt player cannot play, he's having to pay his own way. Get it now?
Beat me to it.

His scholarship may not have been officially "pulled", but we all know he was told if he wanted to play at bama, he wasn't going to have a scholarship until 2017 so he was going to have to pay his own way until then. Isn't that pretty much the same as saying, you probably should look elsewhere where you can get a scholarship for THIS year since we all know you can't afford to pay your own way here until then?

This.

Option 1 - scholarship and playing this fall >>>> Offer rescinded

Option 2 - scholarship available in January (maybe)

Option 3 - Pay your own way to be a walk on this fall

Option 4 - Find another school that will offer the scholarship and fall playing time the first school just took away

As I said, I am not in a position to make judgment. And surely you know how to use Google if you want to look up grayshirt and Florida. Don't make me prove you wrong again. :D

That's ridiculous ... you are in the perfect position to make a judgment ... you're an anonymous guy with a keyboard, connected to the internet.

I applaud this kid for immediately deciding to move on. And I hope this sticks in the mind of other Bama recruits in the future.

Florida has taken a strong position against grayshirting, and I'm happy and proud about that. It's the classy way to be.

Is the original committable scholarship offer that was given for the upcoming year or the year after that? Answer that question and you'll understand why I'm not bothering to answer yours.

Is it that hard to understand that by offering a scholarship for the 2016 season, then saying that no longer is there a scholarship available during the 2016 season, that the scholarship offer has been revoked? You can spin this by saying that bama instead moves the scholarship back a year or whatever you want to say, but it doesn't change the fact that a 2016 scholarship was offered, and then taken away.
And the fact is, they did none of that. They were only discussing the possibilities.

Please provide some evidence of your claim. I believe you are mistaken.

The kid de-committed. Exactly how much more evidence do you need?

I'm sure Jeremy Pruitt wasn't asked is my scholarship still available and it just came out that we have a possible scholarship for you in 2017.

Come on dude that doesn't make any sense.

A lot of what he's said hasn't made walking around sense, it's just arguing for the sake of arguing.

B&G, will you at least promise us that you'll let us know if he's on the Bammer's list tomorrow? I hope he is, it would definitely assuage the hurt caused by this ordeal.

I think this is a good idea for 3 star kids trying to get into a loaded program like Bama. You see unlike UF who actually has to consider playing 3 star talent as true freshmen, Bama has the luxury of developing 3 star players for the long haul. So maybe the kid sits out 6 months? Maybe a "teammate" needs a roommate so he has a place to stay? Maybe he likes to hang around the practice and training facilities during his 6 months? Why not "hang" around the weight room too? And the players meeting room too? Worst case is he has to get a part time job washing the staffs vehicles? Starting to see the picture yet? How bad do you want to play for us ,son?
Worst case scenario is he decides to say **** it and go somewhere else.....without having to sit out a year or waste a redshirt year because he's not "on scholarship". Frickin' brilliant if you ask me....

Well, he is a high school kid. You should realize that MANY things could be going through his mind, including where his girlfriend is going to college and who knows what else. You can't just say that they pulled his scholarship because his father said that wasn't true, and besides, lots of kids decommit for a multitude of reasons. Maybe he realized that he might never start at Alabama and he wanted to go somewhere that he could start.

So here is the way I see it

Player had a 2016 commitable offer, so he commits
Bama sees an opportunity to add better players and discusses grayshirt. Per B&G, they said they would have to wait until NSD to see where he fell.
Therefore, they pulled the commitable offer, because they may not want want him in the class.
So to summarize, his 2016 commitable offer was pulled days prior to NSD, and replaced with a backup offer for 2016 and a 2017 offer (not commitable)

So yes, Bama effectively pulled his original offer. Worse than that, he was committed and Bama and they renegged on their verbal agreement with the kid.

And where do you see that his offer was pulled? I have seen that many times, but no evidence. In fact, it is false.

I'm pretty frickin sure the kid has made it all too clear how badly he wanted to play for Bammer, but yet, Hey! Let's take that dream of yours and kick it to the curb a few days before NSD because we might get somebody else more highly rated! Don't worry though son, there's a chance we may want you again in the spring. Unless of course there's some new hotshot recruit we'd rather have, and then we can try again the next spring...

If you don't want the kid, fine! Don't take the commitment but certainly don't yank if out from under him right at the end.

Dirty pool, man. That's embarrassing.

YOU posted that Bama stated the kid would have wait until after NSD to know where he fell. His original offer was a green light offer, which means that since he committed, he would be allowed to sign on NSD. YOU provided this info. If he may not be able to sign on NSD, he no longer has a 2016 green light offer. It's not hard to read between the lines.

And he could play for Alabama if he had stayed around. They only discussed the possibility of grayshirt. He would be on the team either way.

You can read between the lines, or make up anything you want. Fact is, his offer was not pulled. They discussed the possibility of grayshirt with him, and he left.
