I really like Perine and think he could have a really big year. But I picked up a Phil Steele magazine the other day and he had Malik Davis as the potential starter at RB.

What if Davis stays healthy all year? He might be the best RB on the roster, when healthy.
Interesting. It would be quite shocking if Steele is correct.

I can’t believe I agree with you.

Malik is the best back on the team. Best vision. Doesn’t shake and bake a lot. Small cuts and explosive runs. There’s a reason he’s the all-time leading rusher for Hillsborough County.

If he could get rid of the injury bug this season and pierce gets more comfortable we’ll be better at rushing in 2020 with an experienced offensive line

He probably is but I doubt we have the rushing numbers we had last season unless Franks runs for 500+ yards. I know they still have camp to go but watching that spring game it looks like our starting Tackles aren't that good at getting to that 2nd level on those running plays we run and when they do Forsythe and Delance aren't pounding the LBs like Taylor or even Ivey was doing in 2018.

You watch those same plays in the spring game and Forsythe usually just plays pattycake with the LB for a split second allowing them to get to the rusher and Delance is no where in the ballpark of clearing space like Taylor did on those plays.

Not sure what the average was for Perine last season but if it wasn't much over 6 yards a carry I think it will definitely be under 6 yards a carry this season.

Turns out Perine averaged 6.2 ypc last season (826 yds total on 134 carries). I too think it will be tough for him to match that average, but he could easily get 40-50 more carries and break the 1,000 yd mark.

Depends on the OL. I do want to see more Pierce earlier in the games. He has always come in a bit late after opposing Ds are tired but he runs hard, over, through, around and past them. Perine and Pierce combo is pretty daunting. Just not sure our OL will make it happen nor our scheme.

The reason we only saw Pierce late was two fold: he was a true freshman and he was 3rd team. He'll play a lot more this year. But the other question is: who is 2nd team? Pierce or a healthy Davis? As others mentioned, Davis is probably the best RB on the team but he's injury prone....and unless he's added weight he probably gets hurt again (he's listed at 191 - Nayquan is heavier than he is).

Franks signs w/ Boston for $40K:

Gators QB Feleipe Franks signs with Red Sox

Gators QB Feleipe Franks signs with Red Sox

After being drafted by the Boston Red sox back in June, Florida Gators quarterback Feleipe Frankswas one of five names to sign with the team on Friday. This announced move comes in advance of Friday's 5 p.m. baseball signing deadline.

While he's signed with Boston, this doesn't technically mean the Gators signal caller will be suiting up for the Sox with his collegiate football career still very much his main focus. It's also worth nothing, the NCAA allows players to retain their collegiate eligibility in one sport while signing a professional contract in another, so long as the player does not take endorsement deals.

Still, the UF starter has signed with Boston for $40,000, according to the Boston Globe. The Red Sox picked him in the 31st round (No. 947 overall) of last month’s amateur draft.

Boston Globe reporter Alex Speier also reports that Franks has “expressed interest in exploring pro baseball with the Sox down the road, but to be determined if he ever does so or if, like prior Sox draft pick/signee Jeff Driskel (also from Florida), he doesn’t end up doing so.” Franks, a right-handed pitcher, hasn’t played competitive baseball since his junior year at Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla High.

Despite there being quite some time since Franks has taken to the diamond, Speier also added that Franks recently showed he's still got plenty of talent if he were to ever pursue a career in the big leagues down the road.

"If Franks doesn’t end up pursuing a football career, the Red Sox would have him come to spring training as a pitcher," Speier tweeted. "He got on a mound for the first time in five years after being drafted and touched 94 mph."

As for Florida fans, don’t expect it to change anything immediately for Franks, who's accounted for 33 touchdowns and 14 interceptions over the last two seasons in Gainesville after turning the corner this past season under new head coach Dan Mullen. Franks can still play football, despite signing a baseball contract, just as Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray did last year. Former Gators quarterback Jeff Driskel is another UF player who signed with the Red Sox in 2013 but continued quarterbacking the Gators. Driskel is also entering his fourth year in the NFL. That means Franks can still pursue an NFL career, too, whether he leaves UF after his redshirt junior year or after the 2020 season.

Franks has even added in his own words back in June after being drafted that his main focus is on the Gators and helping the team any way he can this coming season.

"I’m flattered that the Red Sox picked me this afternoon," Franks said in a team press release last month. "However, I’m living out my dream being the quarterback of the Florida Gators. We’re all working extremely hard this offseason and I cannot wait to hit the field this fall."

Franks is also one of three players to be representing the Gators at next week’s SEC media days in Hoover, Ala.

The Gators will open the 2019 season on August 24 in Orlando as they take on the Miami Hurricanes.

Weinke played pro ball right out of HS for several years. He was a high draft pick (maybe even a 1st rounder) and never made it to MLB. He was in his late 20's when he played for FSU. Totally different situation.

Not exactly, I believe Weinke sign as a pro baseball player out of high school for big bucks as you suggest and then after his career did not progress in baseball, went back to college football.

You get $40,000 for being drafted in the 31st round?

You get $40,000 to lock up your rights. A 31st round pick who is actually coming to play baseball upon signing might get more. Their is not the deterministic relationship between pick and salary in the baseball draft the that there is the NFL and NBA draft.

Thanks for the refresher, I'd forgotten the details.
