There are adults here?
Buckle up.....Florida is about to jump in the same boat I could only imagine how coachable an 18 year old that makes 500k a year will be and skips practice because his car dealership commercial went late

Yeah, no way around that rule. Certainly, if a car dealership(seems to always be the example used) has money to throw at a kid for his "likeness" there's no way he could agree in principle while being recruited but not actually sign anything and have funds exchanged until he's signed and enrolled. Congrats, Florida, you solved it.

Sure this may change the game, but is only fair. These kids are the product of a multi billion dollar industry but most have little to show for it. Best I can tell it leaves the university out of this. What kids do with agents and endorsements is between the kid and the third party.

Kids can play football, and get paid for a baseball contract, but can't accept any money related to football. It's insane.

People talked.about how money would destroy the Olympics but it hasnt. Title 9 doesn't apply because the transactions are between the players and 3rd parties.

Also, if you are a 5 star player, are you better off going to Bama and riding the pine 2 or 3 years, or going somewhere where you actually play and get on ESPN highlight reels?

we keep telling ourselves that but that's just not the way it works. we have garbage depth charts and needed elite players for a decade. having immediate playing time available hasn't. Kentucky and vandy have had immediate playing time available for their entire existence. These kids are cocky and assume they are going to earn playing time. they want to win championships and they're not going to a team that's years away.

back when we were elite we got players to do the same thing.

No, it will end the game. Who wants to watch a bunch of paid minor leaguers who have the right to change teams whenever they feel like it?

A college education is nothing?

I wouldn't know. I stopped watching. I do know people used to be excited about the Olympics and couldn't wait to watch the day's events on TV. These days I don't hear anyone talking about the Olympics.

You are right. But if actual right now money is on the line, perhaps it will change their perspective. Or perhaps not.

It won't end the game. It is in the best interest of all to keep it alive and attached to the college.

Most of the football players don't graduate.

Why does the athlete have to do it for free to keep your interest?

I suspect that these programs will have sponsors on hand to hire the bench warmers too. And it will all be in place ready to go the day the law takes effect.

They dont HAVE to do anything. They can play in Europe, Arena Ball, semiPro or do many other things at many other places.

Why do Democrats and plaintiffs attorneys think they are entitled to part of the pie just because the see (or think they see) a pule of money?

What always gets lost in these cases is that the brighter minds will ALWAYS go the the private sector, not public service. So they’ll always be at minimum two steps ahead of whatever shmo state (or federal for that matter) legislator comes up with.

No different than guys like Dimon and Blankfein getting in front of DoddFrank or any other regulation. This will be the same, with major flaws from the beginning.

There are 1.5 Trillion dollars in student loan debt outstanding. Most of it won't get paid back. These athletes have the opportunity to get a diploma for free without any debt. The fact that most don't graduate is who's fault?

It is interesting how a bunch of free market disciples prefer a Soviet style model of college athletics.

You do not understand free markets. Nobody is stopping the students from doing endorsements. They just won't be allowed to play with amateurs.

In baseball, the players have the option of minor leagues or college. Minor league baseball players are allowed to do endorsements. Other than Tebow I don't think there's much interest. College baseball players are not allowed to do endorsements. If that were ever a problem the player has the option of leaving the team. That's how free markets work. Free markets are not present when government mandates rules.

Unfortunately, the minor league option does not exist for basketball and football. The NBA and NFL make out like bandits since minor leagues cost money and are not moneymakers.

I prefer government keeping their noses out of it rather than using the Soviet method of deciding what people should and shouldn't do.

I know this stuff so incredibly confusing to you. we try to talk slowly and use simple words.

This thread is proof you can't fix stupid.
Only 3% of Athletic Departments make money so take your BS about it being a multi-billion industry and stick it where the sun doesn't shine.
Student Athletes receive 100's of 1000's of dollars in benefits. With two of my own children in college I don't at all feel sorry for them.
Like it or not there is a difference between amateur and professional athletics. That must be hard to understand for people who can't tell the difference between male and female. The participation rules are simple. If you don't want to follow the rules don't join the party.
Can' fix stupid.

God dang, the fact is that many of these people don't even belong in college in the first place and we all know it, yet we turn a blind eye to their obvious academic shortcomings so we can watch them play a game on behalf of the school. But no, thats not good enough any more, now we not only have to let totally unqualified students attend the university but also allow them to sell the fame that the school gave them and keep the money. WAFJ.
