.The real question is HOW MANY STARS DID they have back then? Or did they have safeties playing LB and were the DT's light in the ass and belonged at DE.
When the OL was 240 it is ok to be 240 at DL.

Hell NFL linemen were 240 then.

Image on team playing guys who were 60-80 pounds lighter though.

In the mid sixties UF had a LB named Jack Card. Maybe a buckfifty and 5 foot 6. He coached at MY HS one year...........

My memory grows dimmer, but at about the same time, I lived in Corry Village with a player who was under 200# and I think he played nose tackle. I hope that I am not confusing him with Jack Card.
The guy I am remembering was under six feet with incredibly broad shoulders and wavy black hair.

Verge of what?

He is a three loss coach.

Verge of what? Good time to ask. The "3 loss" coach just handed our 3 loss coach his ass.

I'd say, again, that Kirby has UGA on the verge. "The verge of what?" Well, we'll see. But it's not on "the verge" of a 2nd place SEC East finish - again.

I'm tired of YOU (@Swamp Donkey's) of the world telling everyone that Kirby can't coach. As long as he recruits the way he does....it doesn't matter. All he has to do is out-talent his competition....and then "out coach" his opponent - you know, the un-outcoachable Dan Mullen, then he wins the SEC East. And that's the first goal: win the East. Because then you get to play for the SEC Title....then you get to go to the playoff...then you get to play for the NC. Or you can just say, "...on the verge of what?"

Whatever "verge" Kirby is on....it's a better "verge" than UF is on. Dummy!

Agreed. And every year they play an overrated, highly ranked Notre Dame type team to pad their SOS.

Couple years ago, they were also lucky enough to play Auburn instead of Bama in the SEC CG and that paved their way to the playoff.

He's visiting UK:

Auburn transfer Joey Gatewood reportedly schedules visit to SEC school

A week after Auburn backup quarterback Joey Gatewood said he would transfer from Auburn, a report has come out that he’s scheduled a visit with another SEC school.

Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio reported that the former blue chip recruit would visit Kentucky this week as the Wildcats take on Tennessee. Gatewood was frustrated with his role at Auburn and lack of playing time despite struggles for the Tigers’ offense led by QB Bo Nix.

Yesterday on Kentucky Sports Radio, Jones teased the potential transfer, saying that Kentucky had a “very good shot” at landing the former four-star prospect.

“It does look like the transfer thing is out,” Jones said. “It’s Joey Gatewood, the quarterback from Auburn that is transferring because Bo Nix has that job in perpetuity. He is looking at a number of schools, but I’m here to tell you, Kentucky is right there for him. Not just in the mix, and I’m not saying we’re the leader, I’m just telling you this is not just a list of schools and Kentucky is one of them. I’m telling you Kentucky is in. They have a very good shot at getting him. That doesn’t mean they will, and I’m not making a prediction, but I’m telling you it’s serious interest.”

Gatewood was ranked the No. 49 overall recruit in the class of 2018 on the 247Sports Composite. He had 34 scholarship offers, including Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State and LSU. Early in Gatewood’s recruiting process (2015), many recruiting experts predicted he would pledge to FSU and then-coach Jimbo Fisher.

Gatewood is a 6-foot-5, 233-pound redshirt freshman and Jacksonville, Florida native. He appeared in seven games this season, he completed 5-of-7 passing attempts with two touchdowns to go with 29 rushes for 148 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

If Gatewood commits to Kentucky, he would likely have to sit out next season due to NCAA transfer rules before taking over as the team’s starter in 2021. Barring an NCAA waiver, the former four-star prospect would have two years of eligibility remaining.

cant argue with this. as bad as the dwags are this year, they are way better than we have been in a long time. and they still have something other than pride to play for. rinse, wash, repeat unless changes are made unfortunately.

Love to see Auburn beat their ass in a few weeks. Maybe since Nix will be at home, he'll play good for a change.

You are right.

Shart is a mediocre coach with elite talent on his roster bc of elite recruiting.

Mullinz is a mediocre coach with mediocre talent bc of poor recruiting.

wouldnt surprise me at all. dwags suck on O and unlike us, auburn's defense actually does play defense in big games. but the reality is win or lose that game, dwags are still a heck of a lot better than we are, and will still be heading to atlanta while we sit on our asses again and talk about moral victories.

Card always said "I got #1 on my jersey 'cause there wasn't room for any double digit #." What I remember watching Card play : he was always slipping through the OL, latching onto the RB and being a drag-anchor hanging & slowing the RB down 'til teammate tacklers came. Fans got a laugh & some pride to see Card's determined effectiveness.
