And he’s been on record many times talking about that ‘90 team he inherited and how much it helped.
So, talent matters? So hard to keep up with the rocket fast changes of direction between "Mullinz can't recruit so talent doesnt matter" and "Mullinz can't win bc he has no talent" arguments. I need a neck brace.

This is of course not to say that coaching doesn't matter. Yes, SOS dominated the SEC (but didn't dominate a top 3 talent Clowntown) with the PROBATION YEARS talent he inherited.

SOS also beat a full strength (ie not 2006) Saban Alabama with South Cawkolina talent.

Again, I get the frustration. But it should be about much of what preceded Mullen more so than what we’ve seen since.
My frustration isn't necessarily with his record so far but with his recruiting. He clearly isn't a guy who can win with a talent disadvantage like SOS did.

Yes, he inherited a poor roster (except WRs and perhaps RB). Unfortunately he isn't doing a damn thing to fix it, and is actually making it worse at most positions.

5th or 6th in the SEC, just like Butters.

Part of what makes great coaches is identifying deficiencies and correcting them. Whether it is personnel, play calling, recruiting, etc. failure to address these ..

We’re moving in on the end of year #2. The honeymoon for Mullen is all but over. It’s no longer good enough to salvage games you should be winning with furious come-from-behind efforts. Winning ugly only goes so far.

Expectations are shaped by what you do against the your biggest rivals. It ain’t rocket science. You win or you bathe forever in mediocrity. It’s very uncertain at this point which way this ship is headed.

winning goes all the way. Now one could definitely see repeated issues, or problems, which might lead to losses in the future. But winning games is all that matters.

It’s really not that hard to understand at all. I imagine most school aged children would be able to. Let’s review the tougher parts:

We currently have 5 losses through almost two seasons. If we lose no more, and then add 3 more next year, we’ll have 8. That’s the same number of losses Spurrier had through his first 3 seasons. You constantly point out, and rightly so, that win numbers are skewed because of an added game. So I went with Loss count instead.

To the point about recruiting, or fixing things, I showed examples of other teams who’ve had a bad last decade, and are struggling to rebuild their brand. Does Mullen own some of that, of course. But it’s not all on him. And he’s also not failing miserably. He’s just not doing it as well as needed. Maybe it improves. If not, he’ll have to answer for that.

The second part regarding Steve’s record against teams with better talent was also, I thought, fairly simple. Thee was one “uga” on his dscheduke every year, and he lost to them 9 times(yes, twice in ‘94) in 14 tries. The two games against Neb and um were no different. He also let equal to lower teams like MSU ND, Syracuse and ‘99 Alabama pound us at times. Your problem is that you’ve completely romanticized the ‘90s as if we didn’t win 9-10 games and play a bowl outside of the NC picture in all but 2 of his 12 seasons.

As for your Usce/Alabama 2010 example, congrats. He pulled an upset over one of Saban’s worst teams since arriving in Tuscaloosa, one that didn’t even win its division. I guess that puts him just a notch below Chizik and Houston Nutt 2008 based on your logic. Pretty elite company.

So there’s some math, and some irrefutable history, neither of which are up for debate.

You don’t need a neck brace. You need a new, better argument. No one was walking into this job and winning more than 10 games in these first two years. And no one was going to suddenly reignite a recruiting lull that was on 5+ years. It’s a rebuild that’s happening whether you want to accept it or not.

No one is going to win recruiting like Butters or Dorky Dan, youre right.

But PLENTY of coaches have landed at terrible schools and recruited better than those McElMullen. Two scUM coaches have done it in the couple of years, without facilities also.

Again, I provided examples that debunk that. Diaz isn’t even new. He was there and is just now a head coach. But he’s been entrenched for several years, and yet is basically the same as is(9,10) this year. He’s also had a 36th tanked class last year. Pruitt is in year 3 and has had a 12th and 20th ranked class and is currently at 18. USC is at 66th. My point, none of those things would’ve happened in the ‘00s.

Anything else?

If that’s the case, why keep the tickets? You said you gave them up because we settled for mediocrity. Hmmm... lots of inconsistency.

We won’t know until the end of year #3. Not sure about you, but I’m not supporting a five- to seven-year rebuild. This isn’t a weight-loss clinic, it’s a top seven college football program.

Let’s be honest. Mullen is not a dynamic recruiter. He never will be and he’s made some questionable calls on support staff. His offense is quarterback centric and limited in scope, which places a heavy burden on recruiting the type of players that fit. Any comparisons to Spurrier, who scratched plays in the dirt and made it go regardless of personnel, are null and void.

No question Mullen’s squeezed much from his talent. We’re back enough front and center in the college football universe. We’re relevant. It’s time to take the next step and start beating the really good opponents. I don’t want to hear any more excuses. They run out next year.

Just make it happen.

Coaches lose games. Yes. I think uk, Mizzou and uga were all winnable. We could’ve gone undefeated last season. I’m just not as negative that we didn’t.

Franklin just lost to Minnesota. Better coaching wins that game. College aged kids are tough to keep motivated week in and week out. It’s always been that way, which is why even the decided bets ever Saban has exactly 1 undefeated season in his career.
