Coaches getting axed begins

For sure. Id understand if there weren't a few young candidates with ties to the south. Neal Brown and Bill Clark will be top candidates for a spot like auburn and would have been homeruns for UNC IMO
I don't watch Toledo, so help me here. How is Neal Brown better than every other Mummeite.

If Auburn cans Malzahn is our system similar enough to bring him on staff? And would he come here?
we should be hiring up every ex coach as a QA if nothing else. Promise them sunshine, rehab and some time to cut film in a low tax state. Get them before Bammer does.

But are we in a position to offer something that would entice him to come here over somewhere else? I’d love to be in that position, but are we there yet?

He's the coach at troy. If they win the bowl game he'll have gone 10, 11 & 10 wins after his 1st season. Between his time at Troy and time as an OC at uk, he has plenty of ties to the south. Considered a good recruiter. Only a few years as a HC, but as good as UNC could hope for IMO.

Not sure he'd bring much. Mullen is the O with the only really important position coach being hevesy. Rest of the spots need to be recruiters.

Malzahn has been a good recruiter through the years but he also has a rep for being difficult. He and that Arky coach couldnt get along at all.

He is pretty interesting in that he ran a power I form offense at Arky, an EXPLOSIVE passing spread w Golden Hurricane, then that 90% run spread at Barn. He has a lot of playbook in that brain.

I dont want someone else calling plays but Id like to see us influence Mullinz a bit. It would have been nice if that were SOS. Too bad he is gone.

Remember Creyer and Rich Rod hooked up for a bit back in the day. Rich Rod adding to that modified Notre Dame playbook Meyer/Mullinz brought and Creyer exchanging defensive tips and ST stuff with them. It was pretty innovative at the time.

Remember we hired Barns old AD as our second in command. There may be a comfort level but I have to assume he gets swept up as HC somewhere quickly if this crazy thing were to happen.

Scott Satterfield would have been a better candidate than Brown. He would have had the other teams in NC worrying alot more. Brown is viewed as a nostalgia hire and one that might keep the ship from totally sinking. But at almost 70, he's not buying any green bananas from a coaching perspective.

For sure. I think very highly of him as an offensive mind and think he's immediately the best OC available if he goes that route. I just don't think Mullen would use him. Maybe for a few wrinkles on his RPOs. If Mullen is going to hire somebody that he'll actually let have an impact, I think itd be a passing game coordinator. Mullen would call plays until 3rd & longs and then youd have a guy that did nothing all week but look at the other team's 3rd down tendencies.

A guy like Kingsbury would be interesting to me. He's learned from great offensive coaches. Had a great O at Houston and then even better at tamu. He's an air-raid guy, but their O at tamu led the SEC in rushing and passing so he can be balanced. He's coached case keenum and johnny football so that, coupled with him being young, probably makes him a good recruiter.

This is the sort of stuff that will determine if mullen richts or makes us elite. Kingsbury would almost def be a huge upgrade over two different guys on staff.

Good call. He lost two long-time defensive staff members before the season, but didn't have a drop-off (and he's an offensive HC). I would have been more hesitant before this season, but that's super impressive.

Personally, I kinda hope we don't have a lot of coaching shake ups this offseason. I prefer some stability for these players instead of new personalities to have to jell. If we do hire/fire, then hope it is recruiting based and low level coaches.

USC has fired 4 assistant coaches. Including the DB coach that visited Chris Steele last night.

There are several position coaches that need significant upgrades.

Watching the coaching carousel is so much more enjoyable when we are not on it.

No question. The only coaches that I think should be locks are:
Hevesey
Robinson
Gonzalez
Savage (S & C - every bit as important)
I'm 50/50 on Grantham (DC, I know)

No joke, I wanted him to replace Mullen here in '09 because I thought he and Newton would be a magical pairing. It only took two years, but I was right, for the wrong Orange and Blue school. His 2007 Tulsa offense was great. Of course, 2006 Arkansas introduced him to the world
