Recruiting ESD December 2024 until NSD: Top 100 DB J’Vari Flowers commits as late addition

Yes, but will 2 years in JUCO count toward draft eligibility. It certainly wouldn't be fair if a player transferring after 2 years of JUCO to have both 4 years of eligibility plus the ability to enter the draft after 1 more year. And it wouldn't be fair if a player transferring after 2 years of JUCO to be ineligible to enter the draft for 3 more years. Do the bozos who make these rules actually consider the ramifications?
I'll try to help Law's case here, cuz everything you said there is irrelevant (or will be deemed irrelevant by courts as this progresses)...

People only need to ask one question as a "test" for any proposed rule on student athletes: "Could you put this same rule/restriction on an engineering student who's on scholarship?"

None of this has anything to do with "fair".
Right now, It's completely one sided. Players can basically play wherever they please, do whatever the hell they want and then move around in some twisted free agency, like mercenaries.

We the fans, have lost team identity. Yeah, the helmet still says "Gators" , but #22 is a different player every year.
Hard to get excited about some true freshman that shines like a diamond, then hoping like hell he doesn't transfer next year or the year after.

This whole system is awful.
This goes to my other post... "So, you mean like every other student at every university?"

That's gonna be (and already is) the legal test.

Will anyone help me with these questions?(I had to miss pre-game and first minutes of the bowl.)
1) Is Caleb Banks in the portal? Thought he withdrew. If not, why didn't he play?
2) Was Montrell nursing an injury, or did Billy just holding him out in consideration of his contributions?
3) One site suggested that our 1RG (George) was injured along with our 2RT (Manuel). Did we play our 2RG and 3RT and lower yesterday?
4) I thought Justus Boone was in the portal, but one site had him on the bowl roster. Is he still in the portal?

Any help would be appreciated?

Universities have been profiting significantly from their athletic programs, but they have also developed and sent numerous players to the NFL. Schools like the University of Florida, known for both its strong academics and athletic programs, offer athletes an excellent opportunity to reach the NFL. This was a major benefit for players even before the NIL era.

I think fans play a crucial role in this business as well. Their support—through cheering on the team, purchasing tickets, and making substantial donations—is what sustains college football. Without the fans filling stadiums and tuning in TV every Saturday, college football wouldn't exist. If fans stop watching the college games, NFL teams could start making minor leagues and broadcasting them on Saturday.

NIL sucks and kills college football. As an older fan, I miss the days when players were genuinely proud to wear the logo on their uniforms and represent their schools. Although we in the NIL era, I believe the current bowl system needs a revamp. The game yesterday was one of the most lackluster I’ve ever watched. A more exciting and fair bowl match is needed.

You think the basement dwelling fan base deserves to get answers from Sun Belt Billy? Please!

To the best of my memory this is how the age thing works, I might be wrong since there have been so many changes.

NCAA does not have an age limit but eligibility rules are what limit a players time and utlimately age.

You must enroll into a college within 12 months or graduating high school and then you have 5 years of eligibility with a redshirt in D1. Obviously medcal issues, religious issues, etc can allow an exception. D3 schools have 4 yrs of eligibility but they can spread that out as long as they want, so it would be possible to play up to any age.

The problem that NIL has caused is there is just no loyalty to any program. You take these kids, most of which come from poor families and then you give them some cash, they play well and someone gives them more cash, etc...we all know how it works. I see no way to stop this mess. I think we will see changes as to when players can enter the transfer portal but thats about it. It is not the game it used to be.

on #2, they said that because of his ankle, montrell was only going to be in for returns

Banks was never in the portal and has confirmed a return next season . Ancient is hammered and probably rambling to himself about Ronald Powell not getting snaps at tight end .

^ this. All day, this.

It really isn’t more complicated than that.

This is where the new fun is getting ready to start IMO.

1) arbitrary restrictions on how long a player can play college ball. I can see the courts ruling if you are an enrolled student you can play at the university as long as you are enrolled. No different than a student who wants a wall full of diplomas.

2) Removing the "special ed" access for athletes. I can see a lawsuit where a group (class action) claiming their prospective student was denied acceptance when their academic profile crushes the entire football team's. Why should football players get in with reduced academic profile because they can run fast or hit hard. Someone here has been saying something similar. Academic standards should be immovable regardless.

This gash has many more deep scars to pick at.

Yup... regarding #2, this is how the D3 Ivy's do it. Almost all the student athletes are admitted in the early decision group to mask things. Suing over stuff like that is the logical next step to the SCOTUS win the Asians got.

During the pre-game tailgate I was talking with a family friend who's entire family 3 generations are Gator's at the highest level. The dad played with SOS and has always been a prime supporter of the school. The next generation had four Gator grad's. They have owned one of the boxes at the Swamp for decades.

A grandson was denied admission. This kid was one of the top academics at his school in Ocala but was denied admission at UF so he is headed for the Ivy league. The entire family has surrendered their season ticket packages for all sports, relinquished the box and halted all contributions.

UF is on the verge of some real problems if they can't figure this stuff out.

I get your post overall, have discussed it MANY times here (not in sports forum) regarding admissions... but really, it's only "UF sports, mainly football" that is on the verge of any problems, not the institution (at all), and with TV revenue sharing, it's becoming a "meh" issue.

I've :trainwreck: enough here... but worrying about alum that bring in 100's of million of $ for research and facilities are the new Blue Chip recruits for the university, not a kid from Pahokee that plays football.

Is what it is.

My daughter was denied (nursing), despite graduating in the top five of a massive high school that consistently produces some of the best test scores in the state. It’s an academic powerhouse.

(A family friend has a daughter graduate from Manatee High School a few years ago. Valedictorian, and was denied at UF. Several kids below her in her own class are Manatee were accepted.)

There was affirmative action **** going on as well. Three kids of color that were FAR behind her academically got in. Crushed her. She plans on getting an ARNP at UF, so her Gainesville dreams aren’t over yet.

Was accepted in literally every other university she applied for.

Her brother is a baseball player in high school now. Has spoken to ACC and SEC schools, so it’s not out of the question that he gets an offer from UF. He isn’t anywhere remotely close to her as a student, but can sling that ball.

UF has definitely changed.

Have you ever considered actually watching a game?

I assume you aren’t Asian.

Speaking of Bacon. There's a dog snack called Begging Bacon. I just saw a commercial for it ... basically the same as when it first came out in 1988. My little sister always cracked up when she saw it because she thought of me (Dad and I were in our 'rind on dry smoked (cherry) bacon' phase).

Dinner: Made some sous vide chicken breast, pulled it, added mayo, diced celery and onions, a little ground cumin, and put it on fresh sourdough bread with a slice of American cheese. Also had about 1/4 of the Halloween candy for dessert (s).
