Franks to the NFL?

Wait? How does the new Alliance Football League figure in the minds of sub-NFL players - i.e. players thinking, "Do I want to play the same ole same ole college football or go make $100K and face better training with a mind uncluttered with textbooks? Will players graduating from the Alliance to NFL command salaries of straight from college draftees?
Any opinions appreciated, 'cause I don't have any idea i.e. how's the thing integrated with the NFL draft, what's the timing, is there TV coverage?
The AAF has the same eligibility rules as the NFL. The XFL, which starts in 2020, won't be restricted by those rules. I'm interested to see how much money Vince McMahon throws at Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, and some of the freshmen that show out next season.

No doubt Franks has an NFL arm, which will probably give him a shot to come out next year in 2nd or 3rd round. I think the NFL defenses will eat his lunch right now but he would make an interesting project for a team looking to develop a QB for the future.

I don’t think the NFL will find him interesting in the least. QB in the NFL is between the ears.

You mean Dipshytskel is a physical tool.

Franks will have the biggest arm at the combine likely, jist like he always won those drills at Elite 11. Much like JD, they cant hit **** with it but it doenst stop the NFL. Unlike Dipshyt, Franks best P5 year wont be 70-100 yards a game. However, he will not have the "But Muschump" excuse, not that the NFL seems to care about actual college performance anyway.

Franks could easily go early next year, even if he just has another year like last and shows no improvement.
Yeah, the NFL doesn't give a damn about production. They put too much stock into the combine and measurables. That's why you get so many draft busts imo.

But Franks will do well in shorts. And if he just sustains what he did last year, he'll likely be a second day pick. His film suggests he should be a camp invite. Late third day through rosy glasses.

For those who are interested, here is Dane Brugler's (The Athletic) recent write-up on Jawaan Taylor. Brugler handles the NFL draft and is well respected.

"Strengths: Wide-framed and his 335 pounds is well-distributed … agile lower body and handles space well … flashes the reaction quickness to adjust on the fly … aggressive extension and heavy handed to drive rushers wide of the pocket … shows the movement skills to execute combinations, climb and cut off pursuing linebackers … play strength to dominate in a phone booth … rolls his hips into contact with the upper body power to stun his target … blocks with a mean streak to overwhelm defenders … works hard to stay conditioned and keep his weight under control … starting experience at both tackle spots.

Weaknesses: Late hands and wild placement … abandons his knee bend early in the block, putting his body posture in an upright alignment … straight legged in pass protection … oversets outside and leaves his inside shoulder susceptible … choppy steps as a drive blocker and not a road grader in the run game … didn’t start the 2018 season opener due to failure to “live up to the Gator standard.”

Summary: A three-year starter at Florida, Taylor won the starting right tackle job as a true freshman and was a staple there for the Gators’ offense, occasionally seeing snaps at left tackle. While he can be occasionally stressed by outside speed, he is controlled in his pass sets with enough foot quickness to be a human shield. Taylor tends to allow rushers into his frame due to undeveloped hand use, but he has the stout frame to survive as a body-to-body blocker. He generates power from his core in the run game and has a high ceiling as a point-of-attack bully. Overall, Taylor is not a technically sound blocker right now, but he shows promise in pass protection and his contact balance and competitive finish are why he is one of the best run blockers in this class, projecting as an NFL starter at tackle or guard."

Like Tebow said all it takes is one team to believe. Some team will see all the throws he can make and give him a shot.

Franks viewed himself ready for the NFL after last season. Give me a phucking break. He's barely ready to lead Florida.

As usual, the NFL overinflating the value of measurables.

Does he get the ball off early? How quick is the release? How well does he process the field?

Arm is overrated. Do the rest. This kid has a long way to go.

When and where did he ever declare he was ready for the NFL?

Numerous beat writers are saying they have been told he thinks he is ready. Either they are lying about their sources or it is true. I tend to think they aren't liars. Lazy in their writing, but not liars.

Actually, yes. Word is he’s gaining weight. But, every report from writers to Mullen himself is that EJ is doing very well and is on target. By the end of last season, I’m convinced he could’ve run that offense as well as Franks.
meh. If he coulda he woulda.

Though I'm admittedly not totally sold on Franks, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't super impressed with the progress made over last year. If, and this is a huge if, he were to make similar progress by next year then I think he'd have a legitimate shot at being an early draft target. His arm strength and size alone would be attractive at the combine and he is also sneaky athletic in a lot of other categories too. Ultimately however, his ability to make that happen will rest solely on his accuracy improvements because to be truly excellent at the college level, much less the pros, he has to be able to hit big throws in tight windows when it truly matters in big games. Misses like the opening play against UGA just can't happen. Mullen's system can offset some of that, but if he wants to be great he has to figure out how to hit the vast majority of the opportunities for NFL like throws when they come up. Otherwise he'll only be a clipboard holder at the next level regardless of where he ends up being drafted.

If he makes the same jump from the MIchigan game to the end of next season as he did from the 2017 FSU game to now, he'll be a 1st round pick. I don't think he makes that jump again. But he could make 20% of that jump and declare pretty easy.
