No, there was already some dissension between Butters and the administration, and it was looking as if the end was in sight. His unsubstantiated death threats comments just gave the University an easy out.

look at it in reverse, if the University has really wanted to keep him, would they have found a way to do so, despite the alleged death threats? I’m confident the answer is “yes”

When we finally get there, here's hoping that Ox will stop posting questions that would get anybody else banned. Good God Ox, the thought is enough to ruin my dinner. Even our creaky, crappy, administration was looking for a way out. The coach who I will not name gave it to them and they jumped on it. The few big bucks guys I knew were ready to roll up a moving van and offer him witness protection if he would just leave. I think the BBQ sauce was really the final straw. Proof of total insanity.
