Toney is unable to make a quick decision and compounds that by moving forward into his RB. Toney's inability to make a quick read dooms this play and creates a big loss. Of course, the left tackle and TE deciding the DE wasn't actually a threat didn't help.
IMO, because of the lack of blocking, no decision would have been good in this particular play. His slow decision making was most likely exactly because there was no good decision to be made.
You could be right. The TE and LT apparently never saw the DE.
Again, the pass is behind the receiver. A first string defense would have a good shot at breaking this up or an interception.
To be fair, 46 is actually a 5'9" 233lb LB. Will Thomas.
Here Toney unwisely decides to keep the ball and takes a loss.

Even if the defense didnt know the play, and they likely did, it wouldn't have been difficult to guess that 46 wasn't getting the ball there. Worst case, you have to chase down a slow LB rather than a speedy runner.
I like him and I hope he gets in games one way or the other.
He put it on his back hip because there was a defender right in front of the WR. A pass "on the mark" would be picked.
Regardless, I thought Toney played fine but agree he is better off in the slot.
You could be right. I agree it would likely would have been picked had it led the receiver. Although his penchant for throwing behind receivers throughout the game gives one reason to believe otherwise. It would be a moot point if he had seen the open receiver in the middle of the field.
