I think Trask is doing a great job given he's never started before, but you have to remember Franks had a running game to help last year. He wasn't forced to throw to move the ball. Trask is being forced to throw just to move the ball so he's going to have higher numbers unless or until the OL decides they want to start run blocking some.
Franks started our first 3 games this year. If he was better than Trask he should have had 350 yards against UTM.

Trask worked the middle of the field very well.

How can your OL be fantastic in pass protection, yet get absolutely no push on running plays? I’ve never seen an OL that was that good in one aspect and that bad in the other.

Orlovsky said he believes the issue isn’t all OL - Perine is to hesitant and doesn’t find holes well. He pointed out several plays that Perine simply ran into the line instead of a hole. Time to upgrade to Pierce.

I’m not seeing many holes.

We talked about this the other day as this is the Freshman Perine. But the O-line stinks at run blocking and the holes that we see are not easily seen by even the best of RB's. It is not like I expect us to be great at everything and I know that every run will not yield big yardage, but we did not have any good runs that I recall in the 1st half and could not even get good runs late into the 3rd, when UToothless had already quit. It was not until well into the 4th that the easy yards came. If you can;t run against a supremely horrendous UToothless team at least a bit, how can you expect to navigate the trenches against Auburn, etc.?

Still played without zuniuga, cj, toney and half stiner

Was wondering about Zuniga, though I did see Stewart out there.

I'm not sure of to many games he threw that much in one game. Imo though Mullen didn't trust him to throw the ball. It seems to be the opposite with Trask. I will say this, today was the 1st time under Mullen were the offense was fun to watch. Trask was slinging the ball around and it was exciting. I think I seen 2 passes behind the LOS. It seemed like more than 50% of Frank's passes are behind the LOS which is really boring to watch.

I'll also say it's not fair to Jones that when he comes in the offense once again becomes boring and its behind the line passes.

Ugh, I think you hit on it. We were bemoaning Franks and the sideways passing (with an occasional shot downfield). Trask has the greenlight to throw open midrange routes (and a nice downfield on the opening drive) and isn't asked to stick to sideways passing....but then EJ is restricted to passes in the flat or hand-offs where he hands off 99% of the time (intentional by coach or player? idunno)

Back to the point, Trask is more of a ...gunslinger. I don't love that word for him, but he's more willing to throw it. We'll have much more passing success because of it, but also more exposure to risk.

It's early and the sample size is small, but there's no denying the difference Trask makes

So, is it fair to say Trask is a willing passer, whereas Franks was struggling? Honest question in general.

I don't remember any during the game, but we have plenty of false starts here.

Gotta be guesses from me. =
1) Franks gets 1st glimpse of open receiver, then hesitates before throwing..... throws too late half the time.
2) Trask has a sense that his target will be open in one more step -- he flings it.
3) Trask seems to force the D into semi-panic-porosity, leaving here and there thinly defended ground.?? Could pay off for RBs.
4) For Trask receivers seem more "energized" before the play, after the play.
5) Completions to the TE position seem very in tune with Trask .... not at all with Franks.
6) This seems an odd notice but Trask's hand-offs are more deceptive to follow.
7) "Rookies" on D getting playing experienc and getting better?

With more "all-on-my-shoulders" game-time, Trask should improve big-time..... WRs + QB should co-ordinate into plays of beauty.
New 'enthusiasmic' momentum should enhance our incessant grind. We are watching our clumsy beginning, yet it looks fine. ??
Puzzle pieces that could be "pushed" into place as we go = QB-WR in sync. ... OL x% improvement, learning, development.?...
***... D gets Zuniga back.***

PS> Last night burglars stole my mood ring. As of now, I don't know how I feel about that.

Went to the game, my first live one in several years. Random thoughts...

Swamp upgrades are evident, especially WiFi. My first time in the N. end zone “sunshine seats.” I liked them.

Thin areas but not unexpected for a noon game against a train wreck.

Guarantano was terrible. Missed wide open targets by a lot. Typical Ut generosity with the ball. Good day to rest Zuniga & Henderson.

We wore them out. But I think they were beaten before they got off the bus. We are a well-coached team.

Stunned by Trask. EJ looked better as the game wore on.

Stunned at our secondary playing so well with so many young guys. Elam is for real. Burney and Dean are key.

I think if you watch a reply you’ll change your mind re Trask v. Jones.

Grimes should have caught that pass in the end zone. That thing was a dime. Trask would have finished with around 320 yards. Spurrier had to love it. You just know it.

Good timing to lean on the running game when UT was starting to quit. It gave the team good reps with Jones and pierce and the team got a chance to clean up their rhythm and technique blocking downhill running plays in live action. Winning big pays off later in the season because a team gets the luxury of practicing what they need to improve on. And Jones did have a couple nice downfield throws. He’s still experimenting but I think Dan will mix the two QBs well.

I meant EJ played better later than he did his first series. No doubt Trask should start and the team is responding to him.

Trask makes decisions quickly, usually the right ones, gets the ball out and is accurate. He is making too many turnovers but it isn’t because the game is too fast, so I expect he will cut those down as he gets more experience and coaching.
