My first memories of watching Gator football start in 1989, don't remember a lot about it. 1990 though I remember it all. I was lucky to grow up when the Gators were exciting and fun to watch and we mattered. I attended UF as a student from 2001-2004 during the Ron Zook years where the air was sucked out of the campus. Of course the Meyer years were mostly good for Gator football (that last year not withstanding). And then we've wandered around the desert for the past decade. I say all of that to say that nothing would thrill me more than to see the Gators back on top of the college football world. I am not a negative person by nature in life nor do I find any happiness in being negative about the football team.

Personally, I'm done with buying into empty hype and hyperbole from the UAA and their lackeys. I heard it all when Foley tried to fool us with Zook and Muschamp and McElwain and I heard the same ol' stuff from Stricklin regarding Mullen. Now I'm hearing it all over again with Napier. For whatever it's worth, I want him to succeed. But I've heard all this sunshine and unicorn stuff before and I've come to believe people are whatever their record says they are. I've looked at his record as both a head coach and an assistant and my own belief is that Muschamp ball is back. It worked out ok for him in the Sunbelt, but I don't think it will translate to the SEC. We'll see if I'm right or wrong. I hope I am wrong, but I won't be surprised if I'm right, and I see nothing wrong with pointing out what is a legitimate concern about him whether pumpers want to believe it or not. If the fact that his offense is boring and sucks bothers you, go talk to him about it, don't complain about me for saying it concerns me.

As for the board, it's yours and you can run it as you please. If it gets to be a place where there's only a party line of acceptable or allowable opinions on the football program and head coach, then I'm out. Those sites are already a dime a dozen and I'm not sure what trying to imitate them would accomplish. Besides, echo chambers don't hold much interest for me.

Give ‘em hell, Pell.

Pell's only issue was that he got caught doing what everybody else was doing but they didn't get caught.

Give em Hell Pell!

I had dinner with him once in 2000. He was still bitter about that and how the admin threw him under the bus.

My heavens I take a day off on TheChatter and all hell has broken loose
Donk in the doghouse…this is news???

This board brings my sanity back, either I’m too much of a pumper, or I’m a Debbie Downer. This group gets me back on track. Some of the regulars who post are talented in their ability to write, I am not one of them!

Regarding coach Napier, I have a great friend who makes Donkey sound like a Pumper. He is on the Napier train, as am I. We need a flush or 2, & from what I’ve read and hear Napier looks like the coach to turn us around. Will I be screaming playing armchair coach/QB next year questioning every play? Of course I will, is there any other way to watch football?

Go Gators

And being the Florida Gators, the SEC office decided it would be a great time to strip somebody of their first FB title for doing the things Pell learned how to do when he coached at Bama for the Bear. We were not, and never will be liked, treated fairly, or respected by the good ole' boys club in B'ham. If anyone expects the same sweetheart schytt routinely handed out to the bammers, dwags and lsu in the office - or on the field, you may want to put down the weed for a minute - and put the plug in the jug for a day or two. Just sayin.'

Well, Ox, I’m optimistic and positive. I’ve never felt beaten down. Disappointed, frustrated, perturbed? Yes. I don’t like what happened the last 13 months at all. I’ve been frustrated for years, 2012 being a brighter spot than the rest.

Occasionally someone much more upset will take a shot at me but that’s no big deal. It’s just a message board. I usually diffuse it, a little humility goes a long way, especially when I make a mistake.

And you are right. After years of being behind on everything the pieces are coming into place. We won’t know for a couple of years if Napier can excel at this level, but his plan is promising as are his initial hires. It’s extremely hard even for programs who care and have the resources etc. to excel. Ask USC, Texas, A&M, etc.

You don’t need to ban people for being negative. Napier will succeed or he won’t. We won’t affect that at all. Maybe you should post a set of standards for the board. But I think you’d do better to PM folks at such times and sort it out.

I’m not spending my time reading 16 pages of you gay azz MFers pulling each other’s wankers. Get the Fuchs over it. We hired yet another wait and see coach. I hope he can do it. I knew Mullen & Chump couldn’t. I hoped Butters could in the beginning but it was clear he couldn’t. We didn’t land a big fish. Meyer was a big fish at the time. Anyone who says differently is retarded. And Mike White needs to be canned as well. Anyone who says otherwise has a second level of retardation.

Look, I visit this board every day, 365 days a year since the beginning and have done so since GSMB. I love it. I love the banter, the negativity, to pumpers, the sarcasm and the Mom jokes. It’s who we are. If you don’t like it, piss off. I hate social media as @GatorTAG said. It’s destroyed our society.

Try and relax, NV. It’s a new day and it’s going to be a fun and interesting offseason.

I want every single member of Gatorchatter to make a post in this thread with their thoughts. No exceptions. Lurkers, pipe up.

This is somewhat long - anyone who responds with "TLDR" gets a ban.

I got to thinking about some things today after Swamp Donkey went nuts out the blue, called me names, and was banned for a week. Then I got an email from him basically saying we'd become Swamp Gas because of my insistence of the board being positive about this hire. He made me think, he often does. This thread isn't about Donkey, but I will say I don't know if he'll return or not.

We've always been known around the Gator Nation as the "negative" board, which I understand. Since Gatorchatter was launched in 2014, there really has been very little to be happy about. The brand has taken a complete dive, dropping UF out of the elite schools that annually challenge for titles. Hence, being negative hasn't bothered me, since we were just dealing with reality and the truth of the situation. However, Donkey made me think of something today, and that's this.

Some people are negative about the program because the program is bad, some people are negative about the program because they want to be negative. They actually enjoy the bashing and negativity. When something positive happens, they don't really like it. They get some kind of kick or power from wallowing in the mud.

While I certainly don't like blind pumperism, being "woe is me" on Gatorchatter for 7+ years now has really taken a toll. We've complained about a lot, and rightfully so. The garbage facilities, the constant cheap tactics from the administration (other than overpaying bad head coaches), their seeming to embrace mediocrity while other schools pass them by, it has really sucked. The product on the field has obviously also suffered as a result.

HOWEVER...

Everything seems to finally be changing. Mullen and his embarrassing group have been jettisoned. The Heavener Complex (which really is nice) is supposedly almost done. Stricklin has decided to throw money in places that we've been demanding for years. No matter what you think of Billy Napier's X's and O's, he certainly seems to have the right attitude about what needs to be done, starting with recruiting. We're going to have a lot more eyes on the team and our opponents. These are going to be a functional, prepared teams. There's a lot to be happy about.

Even after all this came to light, many members of this board were so beaten down (and I really do understand) that they couldn't help be miserable anyway. They hated the hire, they hated everything. It bugged me. It's like they were happier when they were upset, down and pissed. I feel like they would have hated almost any hire just out of reflex. This is the kind of thing I would like to see turn around on this board.

My draconian tactics to control the misery are over - I think I made whatever point I was going for. I'd like for each of you, as part of a 2022 resolution, to attempt to change your mindset about this program. We asked for things and we got them. It really is a new day and it feels like it.

Discuss.

I'll be honest... one of the reasons I don't come to this board as much anymore is because it is so negative.

Look... I get it, the program has been in shambles. The problem is people don't even try to look at the positive or even try to have a positive perspective.... the flip side of that is... they have been right... I support all coaches after a hire and want them to succeed so I take the positive approach until they give me a really good reason not to... I truly want them to succeed... so I supported Champ, Mac and Mullen way longer than I probably should have.

I'll do the same thing with Napier (although maybe he will be a good hire).

Bottom line is... if anytime somebody tries to even create a positive perspective it is absolutely shouted down and it is the same conversation day after day and year after year... where is the value?

It just got less enjoyable to be here because people seemed to want to be negative vs. even trying to take a positive and hopeful perspective.

Just my $.02 from a founding member who doesn't visit much anymore...

Hope you all are well.

Why do some of you idiots make comments like, "I wanted coach suckballs to succeed so I was supportive in the beginning."

Do you really think your supportive mindset or comments in any way shape or form have one single shred of impact to coach suckballs level of success?

Support or not, nobody really gives a crap. But quit deluding yourself into believing it makes any difference.
