How could he be surprised that AH was possibly involved? Do you think there was no locker room talk about the tattooed Hawaiiain and the shooting in Gainesville. Pouncey was questioned about it.
Somewhere a coach is having heartburn.

You think this will link back to some lack of institutional control?

I am surprised that TMZ or NYT hasn't visited gainesville to find out this guy's background.

The guy is a serial killer. My god.

Agreed but one has to wonder what the heck was actually going on behind the scenes here.

There's no doubt that Meyer allowed way too much to go on here, especially in the latter years. But I think there's a limit to that. Drug test manipulation, small stuff being overlooked, and players generally running things, yes. Actively covering up a murder for a player that hadn't even played a down yet, no. It's also not consistent with other situations like Riquerson, Hornsby, Dunlap, etc. Why allow those situations to become public(especially CD), but risk your career and freedom to sweep a drive-by under the rug?

In addition, I can't imagine a coach would be able to pull that off on his own. No way Foley wouldn't have had some knowledge of things as well. I know neither are real popular around here, and deservedly so. But I don't think they're guys who'd look the other way on someone losing a life.

sofla: I doubt Meyer covered up a murder but I am convinced there was shady stuff going here.

Im absolutely blown away by the responses of the players. I mean really? WTF DID YOU EXPECT?!!? Like they really think he should have been immediately freed and given a big contract to start playing again. REALLY?!!? Do they really think that because they are who they are that there aren't consequences to oh, say....KILLING SOMEBODY?!!?

There is something wrong with our society.

So, is there anyone here who still doesn't believe that Hernandez was the ""Hawaiian" or "Hispanic" male who had a large, muscular build, stood about 6-foot-3 or 6-4, weighed about 230 or 240 pounds and had a lot of tattoos who was with Reggie Nelson" that shot those two guys in Gainesville?

Divits, my next question was going to be any speculation as to any impact this verdict might have on the Gainesville shooting investigation

Total speculation, but I'm gonna say Janoris is 50-50.

Pretty sad to see some of those comments from our former players but at least a few of them have real perspective.

I actually know a guy on death row in Florida. Went to elementary school with him. Always had a HUGE crush on him. He's about 7 years older me. We went to a private elementary school so of course we had to go to chapel all the time. The older grades escorted the kindergarteners to chapel once a week and he was always the one that would escort me, I loved it! He later worked at a local retail store with my Mom when he was in high school and he was just as good looking as ever. He went on to become a model and had a little bit of success. I used to love seeing him in those stupid teen magazines when I was in high school b/c I thought it was so cool that I actually personally knew him!

As is the case with a lot of people, he got into drugs. In 2003 there was a double murder in my hometown, drug deal gone bad. This kid was living in a business complex and the guy I know went to buy some drugs. Deal goes bad, he chases the kid into a nearby business and proceeds to stab him and one of the girls who worked in the office. The girl was actually a high school classmate. Murderer was on the loose for several days and it was a huge news story. I came home from work on night and heard on the TV they had made an arrest in the case. Great news! I start watching the story and see a familiar face and hear his name as the person accused of killing these 2 people. I immediately sank to the floor. Totally a gut-wrenching feeling. It was completely bizarre watching the case unfold, seeing his video statement with the police describing what happened, hearing how he was hiding on the roof of his parents home for days after the murders...freaking nuts!

I can understand the feeling of disbelief that someone you know could commit such an act, but in no way do I feel sorry for him or blame the justice system or anyone else for the actions. These guys need to realize this is about so much more than their "brother". A lot of people are hurting from stupid decisions Aaron made. He deserves everything he is getting and I for one am glad he's off the streets.

Plenty of people knew that the cops were asking Reggie Nelson, AH, and the Pounceys about the shooting in 2006. You'd have to willfully shut your eyes after reading the description of the shooter to not at least suspect him.

Hell, rumors of the coverup even leaked to the boards. I didn't believe it at the time as the facts weren't out but there were certainly many who knew if it made it to gsmb.

A heartbreaking story. So much promise. All wasted.

See! Hernandez is carrying an HK not a Glock! That's reasonable doubt right there.
